Sh t Iv'e Learned

In my 2 years of owning my W211 E55 I have had many of the same issues as everyone else. I have searched all issues with different degrees of results (mostly good). However it appears that some issues were never brought to a close i probably could not find them for some reason or another. Maybe once a solution was found the person with the issue never came back and shared his or her's discovery. With that said...
  1. Rattling sound coming from the engine compartment; I had the same rattling sound of rocks in my SC as others. I discovered what I believe to be the answer not on an MB or AMG forum but on an Supercharger forum. The indicated issue was the SC coupler inside of the nose of the SC. This make perfect sense. The SC coupler is a plastic piece that couples the metal gears to the pulley section. Over a period of time the holes that are pinned through become elongated and rattle at low RPM. The noise goes aways under torque.
  2. Mods do not necessarily cause issues as much as they reveal them; Case in point I installed a new EC pulley and tune (Thanks Jerry) and immediately began shredding belts. Upon investigation I discovered that a previous owner replaced just the pulley on my tensioner and apparently installed it backwards. The original RPM and torque never revealed the issue. Only upon the mod did the belt find the edge of the pulley and cut itself.
  3. Your E55 is allignable; My first attempt at getting my car alligned did not go well. I paid an allignment shop $50 to tell me that the crash bolts had already been installed in my car and it was way off of allignment and I was SOL. After one more set of tires I reattempted the allignment after at a shop and this time it was not on a Friday nor the end of the day as previous. This tech lifted my car and noticed the same installed crash bolts. He did not not stop there. He inspected them and noticed they were installed incorrectly. He was able to allign all points within spec including Caster and Camber. FYI in Central Florida it is Crawford Tires in Ocoee. The techs name is Craig. He is very thorough.
  4. Do not take your car to the dealer for air shocks; Carpartswarehouse.com sells them for $399 with exchange and it is a 1 hour job. Save your money. The Dealer sucks.
  5. When installing a crank pulley mark the top of the existing pulley before removing and transfer the mark to the upgrade; I suspect this may be one reason these have failed. Without this mark getting the pulley to allign with a hidden key would be very hard. Other than that do not buy the tool to hold the pulley while removing the bolt. The new kit will come with a new belt. If you let the original belt wrap the crank and SC pulley you can let the slack from the belt bind the lower pulley to prevent turning. It works like a charm and there is no need to purchase a tool to be used once.
Thats it for now. I hope I have not explained the obvious....Steve

I do not believe you can get all of the there once lowered but the tech I used did much more than I expected with the off the shelf items and good experience. I do not mind some tire wear but my car was a piece of sh t.

When you are lowered its harder to get a good alignment,I actually think I'm just going to goto regular height and that's that

Very interesting statement...i totally agree and i am not lowered, the feel on the highway above 75 is a bit uncontrolled IMO...almost "loose" .

I actually think my car handle pretty well compare to my W210 E55. My car is not lower and will use only 18" I am not willing to sacrifice the performance with bigger wheels and lowering. For look, u can just add a front lip.

I agree I have 18" wheels and I wish I had the original links to put back on, I will ask the guy who sold me the car for them and see if he still has them

Either your alignment is off or you have a suspension issue - my car is rock steady at 120+ ....

My car has nearly everything new and my alignment was done under my supervision and it still doesn't feel not even remotely as stable as my friends C55 does. His car feels like a freaking race car compared to mine. My car tracks uber straight though and is far more comfortable than his C55... I guess it's just an airmatic thing.

I made this mod in this link. Best mod I have done. Steering feel is improved, increased cornering steering accuracy. It may not have actually improved handling but it sure seems as though it has.
