- Rattling sound coming from the engine compartment; I had the same rattling sound of rocks in my SC as others. I discovered what I believe to be the answer not on an MB or AMG forum but on an Supercharger forum. The indicated issue was the SC coupler inside of the nose of the SC. This make perfect sense. The SC coupler is a plastic piece that couples the metal gears to the pulley section. Over a period of time the holes that are pinned through become elongated and rattle at low RPM. The noise goes aways under torque.
- Mods do not necessarily cause issues as much as they reveal them; Case in point I installed a new EC pulley and tune (Thanks Jerry) and immediately began shredding belts. Upon investigation I discovered that a previous owner replaced just the pulley on my tensioner and apparently installed it backwards. The original RPM and torque never revealed the issue. Only upon the mod did the belt find the edge of the pulley and cut itself.
- Your E55 is allignable; My first attempt at getting my car alligned did not go well. I paid an allignment shop $50 to tell me that the crash bolts had already been installed in my car and it was way off of allignment and I was SOL. After one more set of tires I reattempted the allignment after at a shop and this time it was not on a Friday nor the end of the day as previous. This tech lifted my car and noticed the same installed crash bolts. He did not not stop there. He inspected them and noticed they were installed incorrectly. He was able to allign all points within spec including Caster and Camber. FYI in Central Florida it is Crawford Tires in Ocoee. The techs name is Craig. He is very thorough.
- Do not take your car to the dealer for air shocks; Carpartswarehouse.com sells them for $399 with exchange and it is a 1 hour job. Save your money. The Dealer sucks.
- When installing a crank pulley mark the top of the existing pulley before removing and transfer the mark to the upgrade; I suspect this may be one reason these have failed. Without this mark getting the pulley to allign with a hidden key would be very hard. Other than that do not buy the tool to hold the pulley while removing the bolt. The new kit will come with a new belt. If you let the original belt wrap the crank and SC pulley you can let the slack from the belt bind the lower pulley to prevent turning. It works like a charm and there is no need to purchase a tool to be used once.
