New M5, please stand up...
Well I know that Stephens has already posted these but he didn't post the 10 second vid afterwards. So all credit must go to him if he responds with "yo buddy you stole my thread".
Enjoy!

Harris- That is an interesting statement, and one that I don't agree with. I think Audi, BMW, and Mercedes could all learn things from eachother. I can think of one for Mercedes right now, offering manuals in their cars and a little more sport and driver involvment. I know a large number of previous M5 owners would be all over the E55 if a manual was offered.
Cheers.

With the introduction of the 7-speed transmission. I think manual is still farrrrrr from reality.

I didn't worry about the vid because I found it too short to be really interesting.
The new M5 looks pretty tough in black, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still one ugly mother.
I can't wait to get a test drive when they are released. I am going to take a punt and order one anyway, I'll flip it if it's a dog and keep it if not. I don't think the car would be delivered for 12-18mths and I'll be bored with the e55 by then. Hopefully Benz will come up with a model upgrade for the E55 to combat the M5. Come to thinkof it, I'd better order the uograde E55 too!

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
I think the new M5 looks nice. But, if I had to chose between that or the new W211 E55, I would choose the E55 hands down. I've owned both BMW's and Mercedes Benzes and just love the styling of Mercedes over BMW. My '98 M3 did kick a$$ though but I still love my Benz just a bit more...My 2 centz...

All in all, the pics above do look nice, this coming from a guy who'd die for an MB. Stephens, i agree this car will be interesting and Harris, your're damn right, MB's rule, but this M5 shouldn't be dissed, an SMG gearbox in a 500+bhp monster is fun to play with, even if its only for one Sunday a month.
From the pics, it looks much better than the normal BMW's. But for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, M this!

Secondly, no matter how great this car performs, I just couldnt imagine myself driving/buying such an ugly car.

white and whiter
even with all the tape on that car, it looks pretty SWEET...![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
if you guys downloaded the video, you can see a RS6 was behind it. BMW's probably trying to see if the new car can out run the RS6 on the track.

BMW 4.4L has 325HP and 330 ftlb versus MBZ 4.3L with a pitiful 275 and 295 ftlbs. Also pitiful that the MBZ 5.0L has only 302HP.
BMW 4.6L has 340HP & 350 ftlbs.
4.9 liter in M5 has 394HP. Only 342-362 for the normally aspirated 5.5 engine.
Heated steering wheels in BMW's years before Benz.
BMW used Harman Kardon systems years before Benz.
Dual exhaust on M5 years before the 2003 E55.
The issue of the upcoming MBZ 7-speed auto transmission is moot. Consumers were not asking for 7 speed trannys. Mercedes is not going to sell more cars because of a 7Speed tranny. MBZ has nothing like the BMW SMG tranny.
BMW has no problem bringing a DVD based Nav to US market and their 2003 models while we are still waiting and Mercedes does not have the adaptive cornering headlamps in 2003 cars.
Superchargers or Turbos are old technology and MBZ Direct Injection engines are 2 years off coming in 2005 models. BMW has direct injection.
So where is the Mercedes industry leading technology?
