GT-R K11 Painted Forgestars
As much as I prefer wheels with lips, I like these Forgstar wheels as they are light, strong, and look decent, though cleaning can take a bit of time.
Anyhow they were the originally glass black, but with time, miles, & road conditions, a few were reflecting the real world in which they are driven. I went ahead and took the original finish down & re-finished. Decided to run with a 2 stage base coat/clear vs powder coat as wheels regardless of finish will chip and 2-stage paint is very easy for me to repair yet still durable.
5 coats of Nissan GT-R K11 base followed up with 5 coats of clear. Keep in mind my emblems, grill, fog inserts, and all mesh are also painted the same 2 stage K11 to match. The paint itself is rather nice with a metallic finish that glistens in different lighting situations. If anyone is curious, it took 1 quart of base as I painted the entire barrel once sanded and those spokes are a *^#&$@#! to paint and required several passes and angles with a small detail gun.
Anyhow, just sharing as I see black all of the time, but seldom this color configuration.
Contemplating if I should do the engine covers in the same .
From the tire shop and before a good clean. I seriously need to get myself a tire changer and balancer. If my tire guy quits I'm screwed.
In the rain
Thinking of the same for under the hood. Get away from carbon.

Though I have enjoyed nice lips since puberty , I like these Forgstar wheels as they are light, strong, and look decent, though cleaning can take a bit of time. OK, takes A LOT of time.

Decided to run with a 2 stage base coat/clear vs powder coat as wheels regardless of finish will chip similar to the original finish and a base coat/clear coat combo is very easy for me to repair yet still durable.

Thinking of the same for under the hood. Seems carbon is getting common.

Wow, crazy clean...I wish I could paint like that....any advice on spray guns, techniques, etc. What about drying, I am assuming you don't have a special oven (but probably am wrong) ?
Nice job!
PS -your tires are dirty

cij911, it just takes a bit of time, experience, etc muck like anything else. 90% prep and patience. I'm actually painting my Z32TT starting in Jan, entire car Pearl white, again just taking my time.
For guns I use Devilbliss, however to be honest, I along with many others have had outstanding results with the $30.00 or less gravity feed gun from Harbor Freight which I still use from time to time.

Just air dry. Base flashes quickly and is forgiving if there are mistakes, runs, etc. Just sand and spray again. On wheels you need to hit the corners just right without allowing for runs. Inspect between each coat. It is the clear that one has to be careful with as it attracts flying inspects, one always lands on the clear at least once but those 'buff' out easily once you pull the body out. When I build my shed early next year, I will have filters, etc installed so that I can paint in there with more 'privacy.' If painting a panel, I turn my garage into a paint booth to avoid the bugs.
