Cool How do you launch your car?

I've been getting several PMs and questions on how I launch my car. So here it is.....
Over the years discussions have gone back and forth about how to launch " The Beast". Some prefer to flash the converter from idle while others prefer to stall the launch. Then it becomes a question of what rpm to stall at. And again it will go back and forth.
One of the main things about launching our cars is PRACTICE. I was told by sever members here, that in order to launch these cars you need plenty of seat time. And trust me, I have over 200 passes in my car. I've launch from idle and from a stall. And what works for me is to stall it at 1500rpms.

What I do is, slowly pull up to the beams. Once I'm pre staged I barely move up enough to stage (shallow stage). Sometimes the second light would blink because I was barely in the beams. Then when both cars are staged, I hold the brake as hard as I can and slowly push the gas until it reaches 1500rpms. Any more than that and I push through the breaks. Now the trick is to push the gas throught the floor while at the same time fully releasing the break. If you don't fully release the break it will not launch hard. And on the third yellow light you go. I've gotten very good at timing this. And I race in M ( manual ) mode and do my own shifting with my TCU tune. And always remember to hold that bi*ch straight.

I do appreciate all the compliments. Considering this was only the third time I went below 1.6 on my 60ft. And the first 2 times were only a week before this run. But thank you fellas! I am very happy with the way the car launches. Now I'm gonna tweak the top end and see what we can do.

Here's a list of my mods so that it's known.
EC heat exchanger w/ Meziere pump
EC long tube headers
EC 82 throttle body
EC asp 185 pulley
EC 550 cc injectors
EC TCU tune
EC ECU dyno tune
EC dyno Q16 race tune
ASP idler pulleys
Carbon fiber intake
Carbon fiber intake tubes
TTM scoops
3.5gal trunk tank w/ Rule2000 pump
1.5gal water meth tank w/ dual nozzles (only comes on at 11psi)
Cobra HE mounted under the trunk (holds 1.2gal)
Quaiffe LSD
Braille light weight battery
CLK wheels w/ Hoosier radials

I hope this helps. And I will answer any other questions that any one has. You can ask here or PM me. Thanks again guys!

Was your suspension raised? (I had slower ETs and traps when I tried that but I only had headers a tune and street tires.)

When was the last time you let the car shift on its own at the track? Would you try it again?

I use to do the exact same at the line but never got to experience DRs so I had to roll into it and not floor it off the line.

They really don't do anything. But they look good when you take the grille off.

We were trying figure out how to keep the water in the tank as cold as possible. So we added the Mustang Cobra HE under the trunk on the return water line. The ice water in the tank runs from the trunk tank straight to the supercharger. Then comes out and goes throught the front HE and them through the Cobra HE and back to the trunk tank. This was for "Mexico", but we found out that it works great for the track. My IATs at the track never go over 110. And after a run the water is still cold.

Sorry! Yes I raise the suspension after the burn out. Helps weight transfer. I still let it shift on its own once in while. But mostly I run M mode and all my fastest times are in manual.

Yes. After a full bag of ice and full pass the temp was 69*. And after a back to back run the temp was at 79*. IATs on first run were at 110 and second run they were at 122. It was 92* out.

I'll bet the tranny prefers to be launched from a stall and not idle, right???
I'll try your technique next time I go.

And you'll love what a good set of heads will do to the top end.

That's good. There's too much heat and humidity down here. I didn't check temps when I was at MIR.

I prefer to launch from a stall. Good luck next time out!
Heads are nice, but I'm trying to do this without touching the motor.

Awesome right up. I think we're going to do a rental maybe the first week of December if your ready for another shot

Ported heads would really wake that top end up. Found out my motor build will be back up and running Monday so hopefully we can make some side by side runs next time.

Thanks Steve! First week of Dec. is to soon for me. Got 7 kids I have to through the holidays. But I'll be back for sure.

Heads would be nice, but I want to see how far I can go like this.
