mine sheared completely off and they had to take the engine out as it blew out the crankcase seal plus they needed to clean up the crankshaft snot and they pinned my new pulley to the crankshaft for extra holding power

Not keyway, but key. You're keyway is fine. Even fixing the oem key won't garantee it'll work because the oem key is ultra thin and the crank damage will make the grip even worse. Time to install a beefier key and never worry about it again.

Where would be a good place to get a beefier key?

Best to get the car towed to some Indy that you can trust <br />
If you get the dealer to do <br />
1. the friend/tech will be doing it at his cost or lower rate as stated<br />
Or <br />
2. dealer will fire him for trying to install aftermarket parts

Best of luck in getting this fixed. Just got my car back from dealer for humming noise going 30mph or more. Three days later $3500 bill for new differential. Luckily covers under warranty

He tried to get it lower on the rate the best he got was 90 from 130. when I get there i will try to drop another couple hundred bucks

The whole process of taking the car to another shop will be more time consuming, plus I want them to fix it so when I take it from them and something goes wrong they have no choice but to repair it for free.

Make sure the tech if he knows how to weld another key way or pin the pulley. If he doesn't your just paying for them to pull engine to get the part out??? And how are they going to fix once the part is removed. Just hate to see you get billed and car still not fixed

That is just not right man, thats BS if you ask me. Let me get this straight, you take your aftermarket pulley to a certfied MB tech, have them install it. They install it, and when you take the car out for a test ride, it comes loose immediatly and shears the keyway?

Let me ask you this question, did the pulley you put on have an OEM MB hub?

this does not have MB hub pressed on as its the new 172M asp pulley style, its the new one ASP sent to me after i sent in my old one for warranty

the tech did not torque it to correct spec... he stated 190 + 90 degrees which is not correct... it should of been 275+ 90 degrees.

the tech torqued it as if it was a kleemann/ renntech pulley which will not hold an EC/ ASP pulley on the crank

Not all Mer techs are good. Many know less than someone here. They are more book than mind.
You might have a wrong "kinda friend"
You went to a wrong dealer/wrong tech
Now you have the one who broke your car fix your car. Just wrong!!! What if they break more and claim because they try to fix your issue, other stuff fails and now bill comes bigger?

Just all wrong. Good luck!

I've never heard of a keyway being welded. Something I'm missing here? I'd look at someone like they were crazy if they told me they intended to weld anything to do with my keyway.

Yea don't know what he's talking about with welding a key way back on. I'm still waiting to get my crankshaft back from having another snout welded on and balanced again.

God I would be PISSED if they did that to my car. You make them pay and repair it for free mate no matter what it takes. Don't play this weakly, you make it clear that you're not settling for anything other than a great result and a proper repair FOR FREE!!

I guess what I meant was the "key" not keyway. What gtr did w his fix that slotted piece that he made from scratch that was longer and thicker than our stock one.

If they werent gonna honour their work cause it was a aftermarket pulley or cause you brought it in they shouldn't have installed it !!
