Need a great autobody shop :(
Well a dumb, you know what hit me tonight and so my pristine e55 will need door skins and paint....any recommendations on great shops in socal ? I really want the paint to be better than OEM (I know good luck) - so a lot of prep, multi coats, and great clear coats ....Recommendations ?

Oh, missed the socal part. You should be fine with a good quality paint shop, no worries! I feel for ya, my pops just damaged my front bumper the one time I let him take the car out so its going in for paintwork for a couple days tomorrow morning. Sucks but what can ya do.

I had hoped to just go with a well known MB shop e.g. Prestige in Mission Viejo, but I have never used them....

Not sure exactly where they are in Cali, but I have heard great things about Chapparone Auto.

I've been partial to Santa Monica Bodycraft over in Santa Monica. The guy that started it used to work for Avio Coachcraft which did stellar work on my M3, M5, GT2 and E55 in the past. Recently I took my E55 in to get the fenders rolled and repainted after my drop. I honestly can't see any difference in the paintwork, including the texture after the work. Definitely top notch.

I was very picky about who did my work and after speaking with him and him making some calls we went with Glasurit 55 line for the base coat, and the glasurit 923-345 anti-scratch clearcoat. Glasurits 55 line is their better line, and glasurit itself is the Mercedes of paint. I have a pewter car and the color match was exact out of the can. Everything about it was a dead nuts match. I'd look into it for your repair.

I'm in San Diego and Amato's is considered the best in town, expensive but very very good at what they do.. European auto body in Escondido is very good as well.. Both are recommended by Mercedes..

I know a guy in Texas who is so good he can spot reprint the middle of a panel to perfection. He once repaired some bullet holes on my Peugeot.

I would stay away from Chapparone Auto in San Diego - their work quality is poor, I had my car repaired there this year and was very disappointed with the work they did. True the owners son does have an AMG, but it doesn't change the fact that I spent quite a bit of time correcting their repair work on my own.
I would recommend Amatto's in San Diego they are the best.

Interesting to see that Amatos is MB Certified....
