I love my aftermarket warranty! After 4 days and $1,103.10 in repairs, I only had to pay $148.60 for all factory parts and labor. Left fuel sending unit and some other little tweaks, and I have my baby back.

There seems to be an issue with the seal material failing over time.

What brand of gas do you fillup with (Chevron, Shell, Costco)?
I had a fuel leak and it was repaired 6/3/2011 (fuel sender unit, seal and filters replaced under warranty). Filled up my gas tank and my garage smells like gas again. Just over two years and it's leaking again. I wonder if it's from the same location? This re-occurring fuel leak issue sucks! THis is something that should be fixed once and never come back again.

I too have noticed it occasionally returns to my garage...and mine was repaired barely 8 months ago.

im not having any issues, but if this does pop up with my car.. im making the dealer warranty it, or whoever i let fix it so if it comes back they can fix it again.

Well look on the bright side guys.. its a "cheap" fix... compared to other common failures with the E Class.

I had the stupid leak on 6/2011, dealer fixed it at no charge (CPO warrantyt expired). I had the same stupid leak re-occur on 6/2013 (last week) and the dealer fixed it again at no charge. They contacted Mercedes but decided to fix it again free of charge given that it's a gasoline leak.

Whatever is going on with the fuel system, these parts should not be failing every 1-2 years. Totally unacceptable and I am contemplating on keeping this car because of this problem!

This is for those that are R&D/Quality/Manufacturing Engineers in the auto or bio-tech industry, I'm curious as to what Mercedes categorizes their Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Risk Index value? Given that there is no major recall, injuries or deaths, it must be low risk? I would think that anything involving a hazardous combustible fluid leak would be a moderate/high risk item resulting in extensive design verification/validation and process validation.

You're lucky to not have experienced the fuel leak issue. It sucks and it's not cheap unless the dealer fixes it for free. The fuel sender unit alone is $530. You can probably change it out yourself but screw that. I can deal with a pump failure, but these parts should not fail resulting in a fuel leak. It's just not safe!

Looks like I have a fuel pump leak also

Looks like I am replacing my fuel pump assembly this week also. I guess I am lucky that I have the folding seats on my car making access pretty quick.
