Plasti Dip Thread
Just ordered the "Wheel Kit" from dipyourcar.com. I will post pics of application and finished product.
Watching the videos on DYC you tube channel really makes it interesting. You can pay $2000K + for wrap or just spray this gunk on your ride for a couple hundred $. In theory, it's the same thing. One is a vinyl wrap on top of your paint and the other is a plastic/rubber compound on top of your paint. I'm drawn to the DIY aspect and the ease of removal.
Anyhow, while I wait for my wheel kit, would you guys post some updated pics of cars that have been "dipped"? I know there's a matte white CLS here that looked killer. Anyone else with full car wrap? What about wheels, anyone with wheel dip? What is the overall consensus?

To my best knowledge I was the 3rd person ever to "dip" a car.
I dipped an A4 Avant in matte white. Thinking I might matte out my E for winter

^ That's what I'm saying. Even if it's for a couple months. I know I've always wanted a matte black finish but was hesitant because of 1. the price and 2. the PITA to remove. With this, you can spray it, enjoy for a month or two and if you dont like it take it off in one afternoon..

Last pic you can see the front wheel has a spot where the dip is coming off, that's not cuz of the snow rather cuz I had to get winter tires on and cuz of that.
It really holds well, I'm impressed.

Loungn, I felt the same way. Why is it ghetto though? If its ok for $100k sports cars it should be ok for us too!
People on car boards are good at letting us know if a product does not perform as intended. I would think that if the product was faulty we would have heard about it by now. So far, all I've seen are the pros. If anyone has a link to negative reporting of this plasti dip product I think it would be beneficial to see.

I would love to see a negative report too. Looks like I have some more homework to do...(like making sure it comes off just as easy)

^ thanks for the input. Would you say that it's worth a shot considering the low cost, even if it's fr a couple months? Or just not waste the money/time?

Ya I suppose your right! I was going to vinyl wrap, but after talking to a few friends that have done it decided against it due to issues after a few months with the wraps.

1. You can't scrape off snow only brush it off (snow = that white rocky stuff on my car) for guys who haven't ever seen it
2. You might not be able to match the color back while doing a touch-up unless it's a small area.
3. If you end up doing a crappy job (dipping it) it'll take you a while to take everything off cuz it's hard and strengthens with time
4. You can do glossy and mix pearls in it too, but that might end up becoming expensive cuz you would have to buy that stuff first and then add it into the dip.
5. Taking it all off would be a hassle and time consuming.
I have 7 coats on it, I can take it in a car wash too. Rest how it looks and all is personal preference .

No snow in Cali.
2. You might not be able to match the color back while doing a touch-up unless it's a small area.
This is interesting. I would imagine it would be next to impossible especially if it's in the middle if a large panel. Imagine getting a tear on the hood
3. If you end up doing a crappy job (dipping it) it'll take you a while to take everything off cuz it's hard and strengthens with time
As hard as vinyl wrap?

One handed operation, the end is the best!

That I will leave for the Chemists!

Also, just briefly read that the gallon can of this stuff cannot be shipped to California?? I knew there was a reason no one was a "distributor" out here..

I will take pictures but as of now, I do not have any close up shots. I havent seen any signs of wear on it yet as in losing shine or anything since it's already matt lol and plus if anything does happen , you have left over dip and can anytime do it again.

I have my roof wrapped in 3M and honestly it's deteriorated over the years (about 1.2 to be exact). I will say this, if it was my whole car wrapped in the stuff, I'd be LIVID that I spent $2200+ to get it done. Maybe matte finish wrap holds it's aesthetics after time?
What issues are your friends reporting with a vinyl wrap?

Here is my review of doing the car. It's a pretty good article

I would def do it again. Matte silver will look like primer if you use the colors they have. If your car is silver there is a matte clear coat that I bet will allow you to keep your metallic finish
