I just received my AMG illuminated door sills today---front and back doors---having them installed tomorrow. They look great. I ordered them through Amg-owners-club.org.

Just got a call from my dealer and told me it would be well over 1000 to get them the AMG illuminated door sills installed in the front and back doors. It is a dealer installed accessory and they need to order the part.
hmm, that is a lot of money.

jlbmerc,
if possible, could you tell us the total price of the sills online and how much to install by the dealership? If it looks like a good deal, i'm ready to order them very soon.
Thanks everyone for the info!

The illuminated door sills are 690 euros.
They come in white or blue.
Installation is apparently better done by the dealer since electrical connection is supposed to be tricky according to posts.
Takes about 3 weeks to get the kits thru AMG owners club.

anerbe,
This unfortunately is not a very cheap upgrade, the parts are high as Amg55 indicated and the labor is high too---$600---$750 to install it. As I write this I feel embarrassed to admit that I am spending that kind of money on it, but I really like this look and since it involves some drilling and tapping into the electrical system (and considering my luck w/ such projects) I am using the dealer --it just makes it easy to get it done properly--I am sure with some research and a little patience that you could install it yourself. I remember seeing something documented on one of the Mercedes boards on installing these in a ML320---they included pictures and instructions.

They look great man!! I also bought a set of the 4 door sills.. BUT mine say Mercedes Benz like the stock ones. I didn't think my dealer would install them since it's not an "official" MB part... how did you get yours to do it?
Thanks
Peter

I bought a MB real set of 4 for my S500 on E Bay and lucked out. They actually arrived and were new and real MB.
The pictures don't do them justice. They look terrific in blue.
A MB dealer about an hour away from me quoted me $225 to install them, which sounded too good to be true. But I went for it, and it took them all day! They honored their quote and everything turned out great. It is a very involved install, and I would not try it myself.

NitroShredder,
The dealer I go to will not do performance mods, but they will do this kind of work---in fact the illuminated door sills are a dealer option---so they should do it---tell them to look at the Mercedes website. When I went looking for door sills---I was always told there were only front sills available for the E-Class--glad you found some for the back doors too---the only downside is that doing the four sills is more difficult/expensive.
Crankin,
More power to you---I don't think I would have purchased something like this from E-bay but hey-- glad it worked for you. Unfortunately, my dealer was aware of the effort involved and charged accordingly. Sorry you don't think the pics do them justice---I thought they came out pretty well --despite being lower res.

thanks jlbmerc for all the info!
i will probably hold off on the sills for now and see if there are any future install instructions (do it yourself'er). however if it doesn't look feasible, i will probably be shelling out the cash as well....

The four door "AMG" illuminated door sill upgrade is expensive---with tax, the weak $ and shipping from Germany---you're looking at $950 (parts)---and likely another $700+ to install if you use the dealer---some have found "Mercedes Benz" illuminated door sills for a bit less I believe---one person for a lot less--bought through E-bay--plus had it installed for much less by an unknowledgeable dealer. Obviously, a lot of margin is in this price--perhaps with some more digging--you can find them for less---there was a an earlier post in this thread (pg 1) by Mark Cummins that had a link on it to some guy named Steve--maybe he can get them cheaper. I don't know of any do-it-yourself threads/posts for this application---I saw a post related to this for the ML on mbnz.org--but the back door sills on the ML looked like they were set up to accommodate illuminated sills from the factory---I know the back sills on my E55 were not---I pulled one off to look---and it had no opening for the electrical connections---hence---it involves drilling into the car. So, if you have to have it---it will likely not be cheap.
