Why doesn't MB have DOHC...
which one better? dohc or sohc?
Emissions is something else that affects which one is better.

variable valve timing, 4 valves per cylinder etc? Seems to me there's lots of extra power there!
The new modular V6/V8 are more fuel efficient, lighter, and lower emissions, while still providing power comparable to the older engines with DOHC/4 valves.
Compare:
M104, 3.2 litre, 24 valve, DOHC, variable valve timing: usually around 215 hp (depends on application)
M112, 3.2 litre, 18 valve, SOHC x2, variable intake runners: usually around 215 hp (depends on application)
M119, 5.0 litre, 32 valve, DOHC x2, variable valve timing: usually around 315 hp (depends on application) ... 347 torque
M113, 5.0 litre, 24 valve, SOHC x2, variable intake runners: usually around 302hp (depends on application) ... 339 torque
So you can see, they are pretty comparable. The lighter M113 engine pretty much made up for the difference in power from the M119 engine.

I know this is a bit off topic, but kaneman, what did you get for your C32, if you don't mind my asking? DD_Kota, what are you going to ask for yours? I'm looking to sell my '03 and am trying to get a feel for where the market on C32s is.
TIA!
engines makes sense to me.
The single exhaust valve puts heat downstream faster to light off the catalysts quicker, and without such a low-emission design we wouldn't have the high torque powerplants we've become accustomed to.The extra valvegear of 4-valve DOHC would add a few pounds for each cylinder w/o much of a torque improvement.
With an engine designed to make HP by high rpm, there's not as much room for improvement as you have with a blown engine. The
high-revver is probably already flirting with it's mechanical limits, but the supercharger has no such worries.Just add boost.
