Need opinions on a used transmission
So, my transmission is done for and I am searching for another.
I found one in Canada for a reallly good price. My only concern is that I can't really confirm the mileage.
The salvage lot says the car was sitting in an insurance lot for about 7 years and the car now has 67k kilometers.
The carfax is attached.. What do you guys think?

I think you should toss some dice, rub a rabbits foot, etc etc. Bottom line, you never know what you will get used, simple as that. Go for a low mileage unit and that is about the best you can do, if mileage is not available, move on. And for those that are selling a 'good' used unit, that makes me shake my head even further. Good for what? Till when? What if it goes out in 3 months? Best of luck. Best bet, rebuilt yours with a 'quality' vendor. No Guido the Killer Pimp shops located on the BLVD either. If you must buy used, stay from from a car that has been mod'd, you know those have been run hard though no guarantees either way. All you can do is try to filter through the variables buying used.

if you want to keep the car for a long time then rebuilt would be the safest bet. if you plan to upgrade within a couple years id save a lot on a "good" used trans.

The guy said he'd give me a 6 month warranty but I'm still iffy, especially since he's in Canada.. what can I really do if it's crap? lol
I guess I'll have to take the gamble and hope everything will be good and that he's being honest... although yesterday I was told it had 40k kilometers and today it's 67k kilometers.. That's why I asked for the VIN.

Why don't you just have it rebuilt??? It's the best option and most places will give some kinda guarantee. I used trans is a gamble while a rebuild is nice to know its not gonna take a dump in a few days.

Didn't realize others tranny's went this week too.. Mine went yesterday. 76k miles!
If this keeps up we may need our own support group.
Ps. $680 for a used tranny? Feel free to suggest used/rebuilt options. It seems like my best option unless I decide to trade it for a car that can go 80k miles without blowing a frigging tranny.

Waiting for indy price on rebuild. Merc dealer said if rebuildable it would be 3900. But I hear now that most dealers won't rebuild and only replace.
Thinking about a used one just to get me going. I would baby it and resell soon after most likely. Have to wait and see indy rebuild costs.
Any idea what labor costs At indy shop may be to swap in a used tranny and reset everything?
Thanks
