The turbos they're using aren't that much, you can get 2 for less than $2500 and you'ld have to run them in some gnarly conditions for extended time to cause damage that would be noticeable. My main concern would be one applicable to your P car as well, the lack of an iron sleeve in the block. Sandy Debris getting into the intake will gouge the soft alusil bore to death in no time, and a new block is either 15k+ from MB, a whole engine swap from a salvage car, or waiting months for a custom iron sleeve engine to get built.
Unless you do it your way and PAY then PLAY

Lol! Craig, we are doing our best to have it ready for T-fest but still have parts coming in as we speak. It will be close. Either way I want a ride in that E85 beast!!!! I want to see how those gears are. I am wanting to do that swap bad now that you have it working in your ride. 3.06 would be perfect for a TT car. At least that's how I feel. Everyone has a different opinion.

320dreamer- this wont be my DD so I am not worried. I am very careful with my project cars. I plan on going all out with this one so I will watch out.

Worth the wait- this project isn't the rear mount turbo set up. I believe that is Berti's friend. They are keeping the SC in place. I didn't want to do that because of the problem with the IAT's of the stock SC. And sometimes the factory supercharger actually works against the big turbo. But Justus opinion so don't kill me lol.

I plan on starting a build thread forum project either tonight or in the morning.

Turbo's that are setup to be vehicle specific tend to be way pricer. http://www.theboostlab.com/store/pro...t-GT3076R.html

Stock tranny will be built and used.

I dont have any expected torque numbers yet. Not really into guessing or throwing random numbers out. But I will definitely post them up when we have them!

And yes Marcus and Rick, I will let you know when start up is as long as one of you will shoot the video for me

Yes sure!
We use a W5A580! It makes more than 580Nm.
The V12 TT (1000Nm) are using W5A900. It makes more than 900Nm.
There is no W5A7xx available.

Mercedes refers to the transmission as a 722.6xx depending on variant, it's the same as mentioned above.

722.649 = W5A900 = v12TT cars

What's the difference in the two? Can you upgrade .643 parts to .649 spec?

If I'm not mistaken the main difference is the number of frictions and steels along with double sided vs single sided frictions. Don't quote me, there may be some other small differences as well.

Thanks! I'm having one built in anticipation of my 79k mile unit buying the farm shortly. So you think the planetaries and I/O shafts are the same?

You can upgrade the frictions, but not the hole tranny.
There are many more differences between W5A580 and W5A900.
And there are differences between W5A900 for V12TT and SLR.

What exactly are the rest of the differences?

too many to list.
It is a completly different gear box.
Not like W5A580 and W5A300.
W5A300 ist a "weak version" of a W5A580. Same case, same length of shafts...

AND:
You can only compare A-part-numbers to each other.
A 722.649 gearbox-"family" has about 10 different A-part numbers.
Differences in 722.649 maybe:
- mechanic/electronic shifter,
- drive shaft flanges
- hydraulics
- ...

The 649 and 643 use the same case, and most of the hard parts are the same. The shaft lengths are the same as well. Have you rebuilt both transmissions?

Sorry, that's wrong!
722.649 is about 10mm longer than 722.643.
So all internals are also adapted in length...

Just one example:
Cases:
722.643: A220 271 07 01
722.649: A240 271 00 01
Both cases are for vehicles with mechanic shifting.

Do you have something that shows this to be true? Don't take this the wrong way, I'll happily eat my own words. I have no desire to disseminate incorrect information. What information are you using to prove that one case is 10mm's longer than the other?
