Used 03 E-55 in Phoenix

Available by Phoenix Motor Company next week will be my former E-55

pewter
keyless go
V-60 phone (doesn't work in high heat)
heated seats
7500 miles

Just to give you a heads up they gave me $72 grand for it. It pulls to the right. If that doesn't bother you it may be the car for you. Don't pay to much!

I'm going with the ML500 sport. It's a step down but I've had good luck with the ML's before. Yes it has Bi/zeon lights.

Why did you decide to sell it?

It's been to the shop 5 times in 3 months. Staying 5 days each time. Each time it has come home with no improvement. The audio system and phone quits at temps over a 100 and it pulls to the right. That's unacceptable. They can't fix it.

This can't be doing MBUSA any good. Maybe the right thing to is a class action lawsuit. All these cars have the same problems and this has cost me a lot of money as I sure it has cost others. All the money that we pay over $76 grand goes out the door if we trade them in.

How ironic.....
you've had good luck with ML's (which have had the worst maintenance record of any Mercedes of the 1990's) and horrible luck with the new E (which is supposed to have been developed under MB's new higher quality standards program).

I certainly can't blame you for selling.
I wonder whether or not you'd have gotten more satisfaction out of a dealer in SoCal or New York. Sounds like they didn't exactly bend over backwards to do what they could to make things right for you. Instead they got another sale (!).

I was thinking, too, I would LOVE to hear what kind of stories the sales guys are going to pitch to prospective buyers of your car as to why someone would sell an E55 with 7500 miles.

--"Oh, the guy who traded it in buys 3 cars a year from us and he traded up for an SL55".

--"The guy who traded this in was just transferred to Pakistan. He works for the Defense Department...top secret stuff, you know. I can't really talk about it. Hope he makes it back alive, poor guy".

--"The former owner made millions during the dot-com boom and ordered this car 2 years ago. Poor SOB has lost everything and had to sell it to pay his mortgage".

Yeah, right.

How about, "You should be aware that this $76,000 beauty malfunctions in temps over 100 (but hey, we live in Phoenix and we don't worry about the heat, right?) and the steering and/or alignment is flawed such that the car will drift as long as you own it. But hey, it sure is purty, ain't it?"

I have heard problems wtih them also espacially from our member Absent who's Engine failed. MB should up the quality of there support and such Its ok if the car has a problem its normal but to get it fixed right and get you back happy out the door is what its all about.

If take a look at the M-class board there arn't as many issues that come up as with the E-class plus on this board. I'm taking a chance with the ML. I know that. But there at the end of their design with the new ones coming out in 05. I stayed with MB because the dealer did give me a little bit a break. More so than I would of got with going with a VW, Porsche or BMW.

I can't fault the dealership. They did try in my opinion. I got an ML loaner each time. It's MB I find fault with. They didn't test these cars enough. I know that with each redesign there are problems. But ones you can fix at all!

One thing I won't be doing is buying a ML in 05, I'll wait for a year or two.

Someone should call up these sales guys and ask them about Chip's car -- and also inquire into why the previous owner decided to sell the thing!

Good luck with the ML, I was thinking of getting one a few years back, but all the problems on the internet boards kept me away. I hope it truly has gotten better. How about an ML 55? Once you've owned an AMG, it's hard to go back.

Anyway, I agree with you about buying towards the end of the of a model's life span. I did the same thing with my E55, knowing exactly what the the new E-class would look like and that the power would be upped in the W211 E55. I never buy first year runs, there are always issues. I've said this before many times (knock on wood), my '02 has been solid as a rock and very reliable. Its never been in the shop except for routine service, I just drive and enjoy the car.
