E63 AMG Tuning Question
Hi Everyone,
I’m new to this forum and AMG vehicles. Recently I decided to upgrade my daily driver and went down to look at a 2007 E63 AMG I found on-line. We took it for a test drive and loved it but they also had a 2009 ML63 AMG there as well so we took it out for a drive and loved it as well. The wife and I couldn’tdecide between them, so long story short we came home with both vehicles.
The ML63 will primarily be the wife’s and will remain stock though I will be swapping out the rusty lug bolts for something better. I also bought the winter floor mats for it.
The E63 is mainly mine and I will be looking to do some moderate performance upgrades to it. After doing some research here on the forum, it seems like a tune and performance air filters is a good place to start. I wouldn’t mind a little more power, better shifting and to get rid of the speed limiter.
Problem on the tune is that it seems like all the tuners show the performance gains of the C63 which is detuned from the factory so it is hard to get a feel for how much gain I can expect on the E63 with filters and a tune. Weistec does show a gain of 47RWHP with just their tune and filters on a stock E63 on 91 octane which would be outstandingfor the money, but that seems very optimistic from what I have seen on this forum. http://www.weistec.com/m156nas1.html
Is anyone running this setup from Weistec and can confirm similar gains?
Longer term, I may do some exhaust work like long-tubeheaders but I love the current exhaust note and would only want to amplify the current sound and not make the exhaust sound raspy, have an annoying drone or have a lot of popping on deceleration, etc. Is that even possible?

welcome to the forums, quite a nice stable you have there. i'd be interested to see some freeway pulls with that viper gts vs. the E63. you will not yield 47whp from just a tune. i recommend eurocharged to a lot of E63 owners because they're a great company out of Houston and really do wonders for our cars. you'll see anywhere from a 11-15whp gain from just a tune, but if you do the air modifications before hand you'll see a greater gain of course. basically all you can do with this car before you go non naturally aspirated is long tube headers, deleting secondary cats, upgrading pulley, intake mods like deleting charcoal filters and adding k&n drop in filters, then using eurocharged for the ECU and TCU flash. if you just want to stay subtle and amplify what you have, delete the resonators and do intake mods and flash the ecu and tcu. the car is very loud (not my taste sort of loud) when you delete the secondaries. see my sig and youtube vids to get an idea of what the car sounds like with deleted resonators.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the great summary. Just what I was looking for.
Regarding the Viper vs. E63, I would say that the m156 E63 would be a very close match for a stock Gen 2 Viper (1996-2002).
My 2001 dyno'd 405RWHP stock (rated at 450hp) and weighs about 3450 lbs. With the auto vs a stick shift making up for some of the weight difference I think it would be a very close match. My Viper is now modified with a twinscrew supercharger and makes about 600RWHP currently so it's a little unfair to compare them now.
Loungn14, I'll send you a PM.

Having just purchased an E63 i've been reading some threads regarding a tune. I'm very interested in replacing air filter and a tune and read positive reviews on eurocharded. I checked the site and noticed that the specs show stock power at 518 and tuned making 540. Aren't these cars rated at 507 and if so does it really get up to 540 with the eurocharged tune? also, what kind of deals are you offering on the tunes now and do they include the trans tune? finally what filters are recommended with the tune? thanks and sorry if some of my questions don't make sense.

The W211 is rated at 507hp. The W212 introduced in 2010 was rated at 518hp.
I installed AFE dry filters, carbon filter delete and the EC tune on Friday. I'd like to think that I went from 507 to 540hp, but I think 20-25hp a the crank would be more realistic.
I was more impressed with the improvement in shifting and general responsiveness than any peak HP I might of gained.

E55 AMG on Ethanol-Meth; 600rwhp BMW M5
With a tune only you will pick up plenty of power. Our tune you will gain a real world 35rwhp plus some under the curve on a E63 AMG, add headers and you should get another 35-40rwhp depending on make:
