best way to flush transmission?
Hey guys, so the transmission on my car went... I have another ready to go in.. But, my question is, what is the best way to flush out the rest of the lines and cooler?
My fluid had a lot of metal in it so I want to be sure none of the old stuff goes into the "new" transmission.

I would buy a new cooler if you are sure metal flakes were flowing through the system. There are not many ways to completely flush out coolers. Good luck.

we have discussed this at length, it is not a good idea to Flush your tranny...it breaks up material in your tranny which can lead to catastrophic failure...do a few searches...

here is the info form the other forum I posted, not preaching but after that discussion and with RedBull...I won't be flushinf mine:
So I went to the local indy shop my neighbor told me about ( he has 3 mercs, sl500, c300 and and older model something, lol). The guy who owns the shop was a service manager for Mercedes for 20 years and wrenched on them for longer. I stopped by his shop today to show him the beast and ask a few questions.
Should I flush the tranny?
His answer: Absolutely not! He said flushing the tranny is not good because it breaks up the clutch material/build up and slings it all over the tranny internals. This makes sense to me being a most of the tranny failure I have seen over the last few years where not too long after a flush. He said all that we should do is drain fluid, drop the pan, change filter and grommet then bolt her back up and refill. If you want to get the fluid out the TC, there is a write up somewhere on how to do that, but he said hooking the car up to a "flush machine" is a really bad idea.
I dont know about you guys,...but I aint flushing my tranny!

One more thing.. What else do I need for this replacement?
Any crush washers, gaskets, o-rings? anything that doesn't need to be changed but is recommended?

don't hook up the transmission lines until you blow them out with compressed air. you need to get everything out that could be contaminated before you install the lines on the new transmission. i assume you already have a new TC.

I would personally not connect anything to your "new" transmission until you are sure the lines and cooler are clean. I would utilize a service like this:
http://www.oilcoolers.com/
Or, it may be cheaper to buy a new cooler but I doubt it (I think cleaning runs about $100). The lines should not be too hard to flush and you don't need to flush them with $$$ MB fluid. Just make sure you drain them/blow them out when done.
I would not start with an empty transmission. I would make sure you have 4-5 quarts in there and then flush two out, add two more, flush two out, add two more, etc.
