If the dude is willing to take a job or find someway to set aside cash to finance repairs then go E55 if he's completely head over heels for it. Aren't there a few college-goers here with E55s? It isn't quite as bad with maintenance but my W220 would be going to college with me if I wasn't moving into a 335i.
But he says he wants something reliable and the E55 will bend you over as many of you know better than I do. There are a number of dependable alternatives to the E55 and the G37 probably suits the bill as gareyc explained, plus the Infiniti probably has better general curb appeal.

well. that can change if you have gone the E63 conversion route + aftermarket rims. I would take the E55 everyday over the G but the Infiniti has a much more sleek, modern and sexy design compared to the subtle aggression of a stock E55. All my friends said the E55 looked "boring" and suited for "an old man" when I sought their opinions.

Yeah, I'm junior year in University. Also I'd take an E55 over G35, G37 or what not.
Lol "old man" appeal is probably because it just looks like an E class lol and then you step on
on the gas pedal

I'm a college student but also a trained tech so I can perform any repair the car has to throw at me. That being said I still would not recommend it. I would have never bought one if I had not completely fallen in love and didn't have my second car for my normal day to day commute to school and work.

I regularly repaired friends/customers/my own s**t boxes all through out college to pay for books, tuition, booze, gas, whatever. I did all of this while working part time and being a full time student to obtain a degree in music.
What am I doing now? I run an auto repair shop....music teacher pay is crap anyways
What are you in for...err...studying?
