Wheel bearings, ball joints, etc...
I went for oil change at a local indy and they said I need new ball joints, which I literally replaced 6 months ago. I bought the ball joints again to get them replaced but my own mechanic says they are good but the wheel bearing might be your problem. At low speeds, keep getting a howling sound from the left front wheel but not the right side. Anyone have any suggestions?

check your front tire for irregular wear. Any signs of feathering in the tread will create a sound similar to a wheel bearing. The noise is more pronounced on lower profile tires. If not, try jacking up the side that is making the noise and give that wheel a quick spin. While it is spinning, try to grab on to the steering knuckle to see if you can "feel" the noise you are hearing in the car. If you feel it, it is most likely a bearing noise.

How do the tires look? Can you swap on another set of wheels and tires, or maybe just swap sides with your fronts. If its a roaring noise when your rolling from the front of your car it's either tires or a wheel bearing. If its a bearing make sure they set preload correctly (after replacement) and use MB green wheel bearing grease. Not that cheap generic crap. you know, if a Indy is doing the repairs.

Thought I had a bad wheel bearing and bought a wheel bearing kit. Ended. Up bein my lower and upper ball joints. End up not needing the wb kit.

Nearest place to Reston is funktionauto in sterling off 606 old ox rd. near Dulles airport . Or benzelite in Alexandria off 495 Eisenhower ave. are you going to get bearings replaced or buy new hub assembly?? I can let the kit go for $45. Paid $58 for it

It def. wasn't the wheel bearings, it was the tires as another member posted. I put my new pirellis on and sound went away completely. At this point, 5 shops are telling me 5 different problems. Going to Benz Elite on Thursday.

I went there and they are great! I didn't get my stuff done by them since I was in NJ and one of my ball joints cracked so I had to get it fixed there. Their prices are REALLY reasonable. I am going to get my S/C pulley done by them most likely.

Sounds like I'll be calling Benz Elite for some work soon. Got a pump and HE ready to be installed. Was thinking to do the -10C Star as well.

You will get lower ic temps as the stock system routes the coolant through the engine.
Might add an hour or two to install, plus about $100 in parts.
The -10 mod will add a lot of noise to the driving experience as it seems the jet engine cooling fan is always on...lol.

Have they done this before? Did you have yours done? Any ill effects? I'm curious if there is any bad to doing this on an otherwise stock car.
Just ask them to "split the cooling circuit"? Maybe I'll do that instead of the -10C, I hear a lot of bad things about that.
