Initial impressions of D2 Coilovers!

What a HUGE improvement! I installed the coilovers this weekend with out any real problems. It would have been easier with a lift but the jackstands worked well enough. Everything went smooth but slow. I wanted to take my time and make sure everything was just right. I would say this is a pretty easy DIY for anyone with a decent set of tools and moderate ability to use them. I did this on my own but a buddy would have made it easier and a little quicker.

My initial impression is that this is probably one of the first things that should be done to our cars. The ride is much more controlled and the car has a feeling of being more poised and connected. The ride is firm but not harsh. I would say it is similar to the ride feel of the e46 M3 I owned with a little less harshness. DISCLAIMER: I like a firm riding car that feels planted to the ground with very little bounce. I have the shocks set at the firmest setting and probably won't ever move them again.

The only items I had to buy other than the coilover set were the rear lower control arms. That's it. No bolts, no bushings, no shims, nothing. I got them used for $150 for the set.

Loving my D2's as well. I need to go firm up the rear some more...but they've been flawless. I think mine have been on for coming up on a year and it was the 1st mod to my car.

i recently drove a 2009 E350 on stock suspension and 18" AMG wheels. Well to me it felt stiffer but the handling was so much better. I dont think i would do it tho. I love the air ride. Its smooth even with the 20s.

Agreed, I'm not trying to track my car in any manner and just love having a very power luxury car with a smooth ride.

Same here. I'd like to ditch the it ride for coil overs in the name of weight savings, but it just rides so damn nice.

What rear control arms do you need? Are they OEM for a different model?

Who actually makes the struts for these coilovers and what are the front and rear spring ratings?

I didn't take install pictures but I could snap some of them installed. It is really easy once you pull everything out of the box and look at it.

I was just a hair over $900 not counting buying STAR DAS to do the coding. I figure that will be used for several different things so shouldn't be added.

Just google D2 coilovers and see who is giving the best deal at the time. I used a non-supporting vendor so I won't mention the name. They are all within the same price range though ($800-$900).

You can use any w211 rear lowers that had steel suspension. Mine came off of an e500 but they are all the same. Get them used and save a ton of money

I'm not sure. I just ordered the kit for the e class model # D-ME-11

I figured the CGW out but I am still trying to figure out exactly what to change in the other areas. At least the car drives fine with the visit shop warning in the IC.
