For an 06............ If it doesn't have satellite already installed from the factory at that point. It isnt pre-wired. 03-04s were prewired as sirius wasnt ready for roll out yet in automobiles. The dealer would then retrofit the receiver to the cars afterwards.

MY 05-06s had to be built with satellite radio installed at the factory. If you wanted to yo u could retrofit it but it would be a lot of work as opposed to the two hours (pre-wired) it took to install mine which included waiting 45 minutes for India to sell me a subscription.

I'm a noob for all this. I have no clue what I'm looking for or how it all works.

So if I have a VIN, is there anyway I can find information on what the car has installed? e.g. sat ready, receiver etc.

You could call MBUSA and they might tell you the details
Ive gone to Service Advisors in my dealership and they were able to give me the history of the car.
