03 e55 AMG,
E55... 1st post, 1st 1/4 mile pass...
Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself with a video of the first pass in my bone stock 55... 2003 with 58,000 miles, Pano roof. Maxcare up to 125,000 miles.
I must say thank you in advance to each and everyone here
I canvassed these threads for 2 weeks straight before buying my car and found it to be a bottomless well of info! This amount of insight really adds priceless value to owning a w211 AMG.
OK, I have had the car for 2 weeks so we are still on the honeymoon. I am falling in love. This is our 1st date to the drags
I did not buy it to race but naturally I want a baseline number and here is what I got.
One of these should work...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ8Gl...ature=youtu.be
To the point of the post.
I have read pretty extensively in the forums about the various times being put down by "stock" cars ranging from 11.7's with 119 traps to 13.4 with 107mph traps...
Now I won't bother asking redundant questions on searchable answers but I would like your guys and gals insight on how and why my car may have run what it did.
Here are some particulars.
Bone stock...
Temp 80 degrees
80% humidity
This pass was 15 minutes after we arrived so the car was HOT!
Belt squeal after burnout.
S mode and suspension on sport 2.
Launch technique (left foot on brake right foot on gas) brought revs up to 2,000 and mashed it, felt like it left hard!...
Ran ok through 1st and 2nd, car fell on its face in third like it pulled timing or.?.?
(not s/c failure which I have already experienced off the track, twice).
I figure I will try a few different things like run it manual and let it shift. This car should be faster than what it ran.
1st pass 13.12 @ 106
Cool down for 2 hours (hood open) lol blower still hot
2nd pass 13.04 @ 106
Somebody break it to me gently
I am happy with a 13 second sled if that's what she is but "when you buy a working farm you want all the horses"...
Big Thanks!
Chris

This place is a joke.
Welcome to the club Chris! Nice to see another E55 running at OSW. My 1/4 mile times in my signature below were run last weekend at OSW, but @ 65F outside... Weather is everything for these cars, that being said I think you should have run a bit faster. 1st thing is to make sure your intercooler pump is working 100%. Since your supercharger has already cut out twice this points to a weak pump.Find yourself a good MB experienced repair shop or dealership first.Maxcare warranty is one of the best too. I am sending you a PM..

IC pump replace and try again and you should see a large improvement.

Post your time slip(s) too, so we can see where you need to improve. Launching that hard on street tires probably cost you some time. Also, I prefer comfort mode for softer suspension on the launch.

I have seen another stock E55 trap about the same on a hot day. I would certainly check the pump like mentioned but you could just have had a poor density altitude while at the track and weather makes or breaks you unfortunately.

Hey thanks for the reply and advice! Ironically I met a MB mechanic who was running his 350z. A real nice guy, hooking me up tech advice in our first conversation. I also met a fellow e55 driver with a nice stock black 06. It was his first time ever at the track and his 2 passes resulted in 13.3 and 13.4 at 106... I think temp did play a big factor. I will definitely have the pump checked and may just spring for a bigger pump rather than letting Maxcare replace it with the stock one.
Thanks again,
Chris
Thanks again,
Chris
I've seen the claims of high 11's stock, but here in Florida, will never happen.

What was your 60" time? Cannot believe you hooked at all on street tires loading up to 2K and stomping on it. When I was stock with streets I had to feather the gas for at least the first 30ft and I think I ended up with a best of 12.4 or so with a 2.15 60ft.

03 e55 AMG,
There was a 06 e55 first time driver at the track... He ran 13.3 and 13.4. at 106. Does the bigger pump help air density issues or is that just the kryptonite for these cars?

03 e55 AMG,
It did a 1.90 60ft. I can't believe it hooked either but I figured since we drove an hour in a half on the highway to get to the track, then ran 15 minutes later that alone put some heat in the tire. Could just be that power was down

Weather differences have made me trap 113 one day and 118-120 on another both with all the basic bolts ons or "stage 3" if you want to call it something.

I'd definitely replace the pump and heat exchanger. I did both this past weekend and the difference in reponse was night and day. I suspect my i/c pump had been on it's way out.

I got a 1.7 on street 19s so a better 60ft on streets can be done.

03 e55 AMG,
You'll be fine with the newest version of the "stock" MB-OEM Bosch pump. If anything, with the Florida summer approaching, buy a larger heat exchanger, cost about $375 or so. And then, the modding fever begins

03 e55 AMG,
I think so too but these tight torque converters do not leave much wiggle room and will either allow the tires to hook or send them up in smoke. I think a 3,000 stall would put it in 1.5 60ft territory.

Sounds like your pump is weak and you are pulling a lot of timing on the second half of the 1/4 due to IAT's. You should be at least in the mid to low 12's bone stock. Definitely replace the IC pump, make sure its bled by the book, change the SC belt.
Another thing to consider, I felt a huge difference in power after replacing both upstream O2 sensors.

I've got nothing new to add from a technical perspective, but I will give you props for posting your first dragstrip run, and being willing to share video even though you lost the race. It sure seems like there is a heatsoak problem since that M3 was able to drive around you on the big end of the track..... It takes a TON of power to chase someone down like that, so in this case I'd guess that you were actually LOSING a ton of power and slowly letting him reel you in.
Data logging would be a big help too. It cheap enough to do now. Eurocharged is about to release software to do it conveniently...so I'd keep an eye on that thread and get yourself a copy once it's released. Seeing your IATs on the datalogs will tell the tale.

You stated you've had your supercharger turn off twice before, this should not happen pretty much ever if your cooling system is working properly. You have a bad pump. Swap it out and watch your car go mid 12's at over 112+mph. May car ran 12.5@114mph stock in 90* temps and 80% humidity.

All this 1/4 mile talk the past few days is killing me. I want to go to the track and see how my new setup goes but the track doesn't have any test n tunes right now
