The idiot did get burned pretty bad which sucks, but he really was being a moron on soooooo many levels here.
Apparently he was joking about making money off the video on the Miata board and was a bit of a know it all as the story goes.

Must be a expert mechanic not to have a fire extinguisher on hand.
I know so many SCCA Miata owners that have a fire extinguisher that will prob never see the light of day and yet this tool takes a garden hose to his engine bay.
He must have watched the youtube video on how to do LS swaps.
I just saw the link, if he waits till 2014 he can get those injuries covered by Obamacare.
Idiot.

Hopefully it burned his ***** so he can't reproduce. That was a level of stupid that can't be covered by saying he was just learning.

At the very least have a fire extinguisher on hand when messing with fuel.
And who puts out a engine fire with a garden hose?

I personally wouldn't ask for donations let alone put it on the internet, but that's why we live in America to do what we please. He's young stupid just as we were young and stupid at one point im sure there are a lot of us that have made pretty bad choices wouldn't you say?. Again it was dumb what he did but we all **** up sometime.

He said he kept trying to start it hoping the carb would suck the fire in. This did work on SMALL carbs back in the day, this was well beyond that though. The damn thing doesn't even have exhaust manifolds (they did not fit) and is half being held up with the cherry picker still and doofy wants to hook up fuel from a hose into a gas can 2 feet away that seems to have an open spout and fire it up.
Seems to me his rigged up "fuel system" was leaking pretty bad and the loose wires hooked up for the remote starter switch probably ignited the fumes. Just my guess from looking at what was going on. He's lucky he didn't lose the garage/house.
