Before and After Dyno E55 AMG - South Africa
Hi
Thought I should share my dyno results for anyone who wants to compare before and after mods.
Its a 2003 E55 amg with 105 000km.
Standard, no mods at all. Dyno at flywheel.
Power = 334kw
Torque = 667nm
Removed the 4 cats, installed knfilters and left s55 intake pipe.
Not worthwhile, didnt get much more power.
Power = 339kw
Torque = 689nm
I then fitted a Eurocharged sc pulley and loaded an ec tune as well.
power = 375kw
torque = 742nm
All these readings are flywheel. Went to another dyno which gives wheel power figures
Power = 325kw at wheels
Torque = 697nm at wheels

so 325 kw at wheels is 435 whp
697 nm would be 515 lb/ft
I am not sure if these are good numbers or not considering all you got is a S/C pulley and tune.

It seems about right, based on the dyno graph on Eurocharged's website. Eurocharge state 442hp at wheels for pulley and tune.
If I convert kw to hp
http://calculator-converter.com/conv...calculator.php
325kw = 441 hp
I got 328kw and 684nm on my 1st dyno run, but operator printed the 2nd run. 328kw = 445hp
Whats interesting, is the fact that the 4 cats are not restrictive, had I known, I would not have had them removed as the gains were minimal.

The manifolds are very restrictive. I picked up almost 40whp by installing Kleemann headers. The rest of the exhaust is very well made by the factory. Removing pieces is mostly sound improvements.

Im waiting on a quote from TNT Exhausts to quote on the headers.
Here is an example of what they made for a c63.
Scroll further down in the post to see the locally manufactured units.

I have TNT headers on my 55k. They yielded a 20wkw gain (tested on two dynos) - and that's at Johannesburg altitude. Best value for money mod I've done so far.

AJM55, do you have pics of the headers before install ? Im in Cape Town, was recommended to go with tnt as they do a good job. Can get it made here in cpt but they need the car for 2 weeks to fabricate it. TNT has a template already, which would only mean a 1 day install.

I should have pics pre-installation. Will try to find them. It'll be easier for me to email them so let me have an email address please.

Got a quote for the headers. The price with fitting equates to about $ 800, would have been less if I was in the same city as the manufacturer.

Nice dyno info and detailed run info.
Looks like SA has several nice custom header fab options.

I live in Lansdowne. I dont go much to Camps bay side, only when I have to do some work at my bosses house/villa, www.campsbaybeach.net
Crissus, you can fly to Johannesburg, pick up the headers for $ 570, plane ticket should be about $750. Get to see another country for the same amount as buying headers online. Stay for free using www.couchsurfing.org

Headers were made by www.tntexhausts.co.za
Installed headers yesterday, ran dyno today, previous dyno run was done in 3rd gear but different dyno operator on same dyno says it must be done in 4th. Power and torque are both down, and the graph is not smooth.
Power wheel = 303kw
Torque wheel = 673nm

Arent those numbers way off?
In the upper part of this thread i read about 510HP at the crank after pulley and tune... I don't know but for my CL 55 AMG thats just 10HP above the stock rating...
Even for the E55, thats just a 34HP increase at the crank.
Stock rating CL55 AMG Kompressor: 500HP (DIN) and 700NM (DIN)
Stock Rating for E55 AMG Kompressor: 476HP(DIN) and 700NM (DIN)
Weren't the smaller SC pulley and EC tune supposed to produce more like 50HP at the crank?
I read multiple times that with smaller SC pulley + Tune, 82mm TB, Headers, looped-rail+550cc injectors, power would be 600HP at the crank.
For your header problem:
You need to get a tune for it adjusted.

The car is after all 10 years old with 105 000km
Stock it made 454 hp at crank, with decat, kn, sc pulley and tune it makes 510 hp at crank. Hard to compare cars with so many variables like fuel quality, compression status of each cylinder, condition of spark plugs, injectors, fuel pump, etc. Over stock its about 13% increase in power.
I just cannot understand why the car is making less power with headers.
I went to another dyno today, to get a dyno run with afr. This is flywheel kw. I however reset my ecu before I did this run, also iat were 15 degrees cel less than yesterday. Although cant compare the 2 dynos, the graph shape is much better.
power = 408kw
3000rpm = 12.8 afr ( -5.5 timing ) - 33 deg cel iat
4000rpm = 12.2 afr ( -10 timing ) - 38 deg cel iat
5000rpm = 11.7 afr ( -22 timing ) - 42 deg cel iat
6000rpm = 11.1 afr ( -15 timing ) - 50 deg cel iat

Found a fault, the exhaust shop removed the coil packs to fit the headers, they mixed up the wiring on one cylinder. I rectified it.
Did 2 dynos runs, one 45 mins after the other, dynotech and jdmworx. Dynotech = flywheel, jdmworx = wheel
Dynotech - 382kw - iat started at 48 deg C, power would have been higher if the fan was used earlier to cool it down.
Jdmworx - 332kw - iat started at 32 deg C, did one run at 50 deg, power was at 328kw.
Graphs are also smoother than last time. Overall got 7wkw more after headers, I think the plugs are old, will get 1 step colder and a new ic pump.

I suppose it doesn't show much gains on the dyno but the car certainly does feel fast. Using a Samsung galaxy gps, shows 0 to 200km/h in 12.7 sec.

Wow nice,that is moving some.. Well after my poor gains after installing upper pulley and supposedly doing a custom tune I only got 15RWHP gain. So your 7kws is now quite a bargain in restrospect!!!
