Yeah I agree, that's a no brainer.

Here's one of the ones that I didn't drop the phone while trying to drive. I was hearing some audible detonation so i backed off...probably because I had the methanol system turned off.

This place is a joke.
A friend called me today to gauge interest on a private track rental at Orlando Speed World. He is trying to put something together for January. I'd love to see your CLS out there!!

Yeah we should chat about that, my buddy w The CtS-V and I were talking about doing a little private event at OSW w just luxury sedans, I think we'd have some fun and get a decent turnout since the SoFL crew can still make it as well as some of the GA/AL/LA people

Hey boys,

Got these three parts, brand spanking new (ordered two of each by mistake), ready to go, anybody want them?

PS: They will be FREE to whoever guarantees they will use them and not just have them sit around or re-sell them

Just pay for shipping or pick em up, I will be in Orlando for 3 weeks, let me know. I just wanna help a fellow member.

I did a few tweaks to the inlet side of the engine recently as it was choking for air big time. I dynoed it back in December and it made only 530hp/550tq but it was peaking at around 4700rpm. We popped off the air filter pipe and it jumped to 580/600 on a back to back pull but it still was peaking at 4900-5000 rpm so I put a vacuum gauge on the inlet when I got home and it was still pulling 6-7in of vaccum at WOT!

So after receiving Weistec's intake cold-air kit (very well thought out kit) I modified the blower intlet pipe to fit the BBK 90mm throttle body, moved the coolant reservoir and put a bigger air filter over behind the headlight. I still don't have the Weistec close out panel installed that isolates the air filter from the engine heat, that's because I am in the process of making a new pipe from 4.5inch tubing to replace the 3.5 inch one currently there. Although the power increase from the 90mm TB is very apparent, and the engine pulls hard to 6k now instead of 5k, I think there's a lot more power to be had still from that pipe upgrade.

Either way it's a blast to drive now, and I just gave my neighbor a schooling in his 2010 Z06 with full exhaust and intake upgrades. Not an epic beat down but he fell back a car length every gear. Also I had Weistec reprogram my TCU and son of a ***** what a difference with that and the converter. Without that TCU work I was going to pull the converter out and put the stock one back in because it drove like a damn CVT trans shifting in the middle of the converter slippage. I highly highly recommend anybody with an aftermarket converter and stock TCU tune to do the same.

Also this TB upgrade appears to have cured the "hiccup" P106 code I kept getting that would intermittently send the car into a lean mode and require a key off , engine restart to make go away. Knock on wood, hopefully it's gone for good!

I also plan to swap the cams shortly, and whenever Weistec releases that mono blade TB im sure that'll be worth a ton over this puny 90 and these mods should help bring the power up into the 6500-7200rpm range where it should be. I thought about having the 90 re-bladed larger but hell with it since a comercially available one will be available sooner or later. A friend of mine picked up 44RWHP on his CTSV (stock blower ported) from swapping the stock 90mm to a 102 along w a 4.5 inch inlet pipe like the one I'm making.

Here's a 3.5 next to a 4.5 pipe. Only an inch in diameter increases cross sectional area 65%

Here's the modified inlet(before I ported it and smoothed out)

Starting to look like something! Still with the smaller pipe and no isolater panel

Sick, that's awesome that you laid the smack down to those lesser rides. Now what's that got rid of the hiccup I wouldn't touch another thing now that it's fixed.... But that's no way live, but for now no more lean spike congrats

AWESOME thread. You do some amazing work Sir-Boost-a-Lot! Do you have a shop? I'm in Orlando, and so far my CLK430 has not had any major issues that I can't handle, but I would definitely bring it to you if necessary.

I also made specific changes to improve rod angle and side loading of the pistons under extreme load, ringland depth, ring material and size, and piston forging material.

If I missed this, I apologize - who made your pistons? Are you saying that with rod changes, essentially the journal related dimensions of the honda bearings are the same? Champher, width, etc...

How did you determine the movement of the pin location on the piston to affect the rod angle and side loading, or when you say rod angle, are you talking about moving the compression height and therefore the length of the rod on the OEM crank?

Awesome build, carillo rods too? Nice

I think he pushed the rod as high up into the piston by moving the wrist pin up to put as long of a rod in there as possible. Which gives a better rod ratio and less side load on the cylinders.

Chris,

I'm in the process of modifying the Weistec elbow for the 90mm BBK TB. Interested to know if there's a procedure to be carried out on the first start with the new TB?

Thanks.

Exactly correct. I wanted to turn the RPM beyond the factory's intentions and didn't like the rod angle that the OEM rod length/CH gave.

You'll need to do a throttle body re-learn procedure before starting the engine. Do you have a STAR/Xentry?

Here's a completed 90mm inlet-
Be sure to use a snap gauge or equivalent to ensure you have at least 90mm through the radius. It was way smaller than that before, as the intent as designed was to provide for an 82mm.

Jeezus, I saw those short piston skirts and thought someone knows what they're doing... Better rod ratio, higher rpms, less side load, more dwell time for pistons up top. Add shorter gears and that could be really nice also!

Everything looks top quality!

Thank you! After putting 10,000 miles on this setup, Ive been really hard at work on this thing again the past few months with another round of mods both performance and cosmetic.
Almost done!

Ah gotcha. No, I don't have a Star but will borrow one. The elbow will be hacked to make sure it has at least 90mm.

On an unrelated note, what is your opinion on Darton sleeves seeing as you have them installed? I'm going through some options for a spare 55k engine I'm about to purchase so would appreciate your input.

From speaking to a local Alusil engine specialist, he was very skeptical about going MID in an open deck engine like ours. Honing (or overboring) with Mahle pitons is a better option as he recons Alusil block has never been designed with liners in mind so wet sleeving it with steel lines can be unpredictable too.

Thanks again.
