SBC Recall up for me 9/2013, anyway to get one from the dealer without malfunction
Just noticed my 10 years are up in a few months. No problems with the SBC yet. Is there anyway to get one from the dealer without a "Brake Malfunction message" Anyway to trip one and trick them via Star? Would really suck if it went bad a few months after the recall expired. Have extended warranty but it's an inclusionary and not sure that it would be covered. I'm sure they would try not to pay for it with a line of BS.

I'm not sure of the validity of the statements that I'm about t and the pedal is vibrating more and more noise I'm referring to is in th and the title is vibrating more and more noise I'm referring to is in the pedal and make mention of this to th and make mention of this to the dealer hopefully there is hopefully there is a record, as this is a brake issue somebody could be seriously injured and I can't imagine them having knowledge of this potential issue and not attending to it, if they dont make a record of that, also heard/read that a dealership dealership doesn't even have to pay with a warranty issue that theyare reimbursed by corporate, so proceed at your own risk but if you get left high and dry I thought I had read somewhere that it's the actuator on the SBC which you can swap out if your mechanically inclined prob around $400 if you ever have an issue

It would be unfortunate if voltage was applied to the sbc unit backwards. It might cause a control unit failure I wouldn't try it though

I say cut the end of an extension cord off and plug it in then connect it to the SBC and see what happens?*
*I'm in no way responsible if you really do this, but report back if you do!

Those are some extreme measures for sure!! Not sure if I wanna go that far, plus I would then have to have the car towed to the dealership. Unless of course, I do it in their parking lot!!

My experience, as well as a few other members I have spoken with, is that mb changed the policy lately.
My sbc warning went off and the dealer just did a software update, and did not replace my unit. Apparently the protocol has changed: flash first, then replace the hardware if the warming comes back.
So.....no you are more than likely not getting anything for free

It depends. If there is warning light and a fault code is set, the SDS will determine if it needs to be programmed or replaced. The tech will have to process the DTC with the SDS and in the end it will determine the results

Does the SBC computer have a VIN sticker, or is it programmed with an identification code of some kind? Say in case someone wanted to swap units with a later car?

i had a fault code two months ago. mine is also up in july - the dealer said service only called for fault code to be cleared if it came back again then they would replace... so its a countdown to error or expiring warranty window. ridiculous

Mine is up in July of this year. My car is in the shop right now dealing with faulty sending units and fuel tank and I asked my SA if he could find something wrong with the SBC since the brake failure alert was on. He said he would try and see what he could do, but ultimately he couldn't.

SBC units are not VIN coded to a vehicle. So in "theory" (only because I have not personally tried this) a good working SBC unit can be transferred from one car to another
