Questions abou ECU Upgrade for E55 AMG

I just purchased 2005 E55 AMG and am thinking about getting an ECU upgrade with Eurocharged. My friend has a 2006 CLS55 AMG and he said doing this is risky and could lead to me needing to buy another ECU from Benz which is pricey. I would like to know if anyone here has done this before and if so how your car runs with the upgrade. Here is the link to Eurocharged website who does the upgrade. Please advise.

Many people are running the EC tune, including me, with no adverse affects. I'd like to know what exactly your friend thinks is going to happen. Sounds to me like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

You may want to do some searching. Everyone on here has their car tuned. Get the Eurocharged tune, it's fantastic and you won't regret it! Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about, you won't be purchasing any ECU's from MB.

I guess he thinks its going to mess with the computer. So did you notice a big difference when you upgraded your ECU? I heard the horsepower increased to 510-515 and the top speed to 200mph.

Yes, the difference was noticeable.

The advertised crank hp is ~516hp after the tune.

The 155 top speed limiter is moved to 200mph with the tune, but you will not reach 200mph.

It better mess with the computer otherwise they didn't do anything It'll completely remove the limiter, as for power they have dyno graphs on their website. Expect 30HP-40HP gains at the wheels. They also have a sale going on right now for a tune and a supercharger pulley, it's good for another 30HP-40HP.

PAC: Can you send the link to that deal? I've seen both the pulley upgrade and tune for as low as $1600. If that deal you're talking about it lower than that could you send the link?

Heiss: You said the car won't get to 200mph. Is this because the tune limits it to less than 200mph or because there is not enough road on most highways? LOL

The car won't get to 200 because it doesn't have enough power to push it through the air. I think around mid 180s are what people are seeing for top speed runs.

ecu tune

the responses are great and very informative and i would like to add also when you have some time, do some more research on the forum also about "upgrades" to ecu and the pulley, and then the "cooling upgrade" because you will generate more heat, and why people are upgrading their fueling rails etc etc..... be informed!! thats the key and eurocharge if you decide to go with them can answer many questions too... but be informed of not just the upgrades and how much power it will bring to your car but also what are the potential problems/issues you can have and when you inform yourself, you will have no one to blame when and i hope never, you have a problem with your car. there are tons of info on here and you dont have to search far, just recently, maybe the first couple pages, a member talked about why if he had to do it all over again, why he would opt for the 168mm pulley instead of the 180mm and there is a long thread about many others opinions about his assessment and as you read thru it you come to realize there is more i need to learn and understand as i venture forth into modding, changing, increasing the potential of our cars and then what ultimately can happen and can i live with the worst potential problem that can occur. just be/get informed!!!! thanks.

Thats interesting because in germany you could order a raise of the v-max limit to 300km/h (188mph) for all the 55K cars.
With my car (CL 55 AMG stock!) and new stock tires i hit 310km/h (194mph) at the speedometer once on the Autobahn.
It wasnt accelerating further so i guess that it hit that 300km/h limiter.

This guy, who has a good amount of mods, only hit 191 given a 2 mile straight.

The OP was looking at tune only.
