So, I got to ride in an F-Type S today
First impressions of Jaguar's 495hp s/c V8 model....
1) The exhaust is LOUD; especially with the optional selective electronic exhaust that comes with a performance package. It's loud enough that, if I owned one, I wouldn't consider aftermarket exhaust. It's got 2 cats, near the headers, that flow back through straight pipes in the trans tunnel, passing through an X-pipe on the way and ending in a suitcase muffler behind the bumper. It has 4 tips, but only the inner 2 are open with the exhaust on quiet. When you select the loud mode, the outer pipes open, providing a near straight-thru design. The thing sounds orgasmic as it crackles and pops while slowing down.
2) It's got kick. From a roll, it will throw you back in your seat. I'd like to get a chance to play with one on the freeway.
3) The camel colored top is fugly. So are the optional, matching camel colored seatbelts.
4) It's small, as you would expect, but I had ample legroom and headroom. A Miata is smaller and I would say it's the size of a Boxster, which I haven't sat in since the late '90s. Other than that, I haven't been in a 2-seater in ages.
5) At times the 8spd trans seemed to shift well and other times it seemed to have a big lag, especially under throttle, which produced a lot of jerky-ness. Not sure if it was just the driver or not.
6) The door handles are trick. They sit flush with the door until you hit the unlock button, then they pop out.
7) Did I mention the exhaust is amazing?
No, I didn't get any videos as it wouldn't have done it justice. Pics can also be seen in the Hawt Cars thread.
I found it odd that the car is available in 2 supercharged sixes and a supercharged 8. Seems like a naturally aspirated 8 would have slotted in place of the higher model 6?

I like it! I was not aware that car came in V8-S guise. That explains the viscious exhaust growl from the F-type commercial. I thought it was fake since there is no way a six cylinder engine can sound so throaty.

This is a good looking car for sure. I actually like the rear of the car as well. It looks supercaresque from the back. There is nothing like it on the road today besides a vette under 100K.

Thanks for the feedback.
I love the way it looks but was disappointed with the interior amenities. It felt cheap for a $100K car (V8S version).
I like the coupe much better and if they come up with an R-S version, I may be tempted to trade.

Boxteresque lol...maybe I think I went a bit overboard with the supercaresque comment. Above all else that exhaust that exhaust that exhaust sounds awesome!
