Steering buttons and horn stopped working..plz help

Hi..

Was driving the car in M mode and noticed the shifters on the steering wheel stopped working

After a closer look in to it noticed horn and buttons don't work either.

Checked all the fuses and they are all fine..

Just got it checked with a Star unit and it said low voltage to the control..

Can you guys tell me what unit I mite need to change?

Thank you so much!!

Hi

If it were me I would disconnect both front and rear batteries at the same time and fully charge them both and then connect them up to the car, start it and test if you still have the same issue.

I have had some electrical issues in the past and just by disconnecting and re-connecting the batteries my issues had gone away.

Let us know if this fixes your issue.

Regards,

This issue is normally caused by the clock spring breaking in the steering wheel. They are not difficult to replace if you are confident in yourself as you will have to remove the airbag.

That's what I thought at first but the SRS is not on..

Could it still be the clock spring?

Also..I already removed the air bag to check for loose or cut wires and everything looked fine.

Is the telephone buttons on the wheel the control box?

I saw that all the plugs go in to and like shifter horn and the multifunction buttons.

have you done anything with the steering wheel?? changed recently? taken off? either the clockspring problem and/or the connections to the airbag and the other connector for the steering wheel controls not plugged in correctly?? but the battery reset not bad place to start doesnt require much.

sorry just read you done that already, well you might as well go a step further and take off the steering wheel and check your clockspring, when you get the wheel off you will see it right there. hope thats what it is. the steering wheel bolt is on with loctite so be warned: its a tough mother to get off! be patient and take your time.

Just checked and the clock spring seems to be fine..there is a plug that has 3 wires black/red/white and they all are connected.

The red is the ground....the white has switched 12v and the black has low voltage like 2.8 to 3.7V

great!!

sounds like may have been a "short" some where but if its all working then no worries but if you in the future get this same thing then you will have an idea there is a short somewhere. glad its working after going thru all the steering wheel take offs and such....hope it stays that way!!!

Update**

It worked for a while and stopped so I removed the airbag and checked everything out again which it all looks fine so I tested the 3 wires that connect behind the air bag...the black wire is low voltage (like 5.5V)..the white wire is a 12V and the red is ground -

So I decided to touch the black and white wire together..that made it work but now it only works if the key is turned on but not started

Any thoughts from someone that is Knowledgeable with stuff like this??
