I guess my IC pump is dead?
Went to the track tonight as I haven't run her all year, so figured why not. Well after tonight I am slightly confused. I have had some concerns with my iats, as they are usually around 50-55 over ambient cruising on the highway. I figured it was just higher because of the smaller sc pulley I added, and figured the splits cooling would bring things back into check. Well now I'm starting to think I have a dead pump. Heres why:
1. My first run my iats were around 113, which isn't terrible but let the car sit for an hour with ice on the sc. At the end of the run, iats were at a blistering 170. So I started to think my IC pump must be on its way out.
2. I hot lapped the car and iats at the beginning of run 2 were 131, and went up to 190! I didn't run again for fear that those iats were way out of check.
3. Now that I think back, I changed to my current IC pump (cm30) 3 years ago.
But here's where I'm confused. When I first got my car and ran the 1/4 mile I was only trapping 107-108. I immediately new the IC pump was dead and upgraded. My traps immediately went up to 114-116. Tonight on both of my runs I trapped 115. So my question is, is my IC pump really dead or do I just need to split the cooling? I mean the temps indicate its dead, but I'm surprised I would still trap that high. I have the smaller sc pulley, ec tune, heat exchanger and the 16" clk with MTs.

your pump is bad if your IATs are 50-55 over ambient or maybe a bubble in your system?
my IATs are about 12-15 degrees over ambient cruising around - I lost almost 50HP with a failed pump

This place is a joke.
Sounds like the pump is dead, or weak at best- My Bosch -010 pump has been working good for me. I see 20 deg over ambient in town, drops down to 10 over on the highway, and last time at the track I saw 145-155F at the end of the quarter, in 65 deg, weather. I have split cooling with a small flow-through tank underhood.

I guess in better news, a 115 trap with a beat ic pump is pretty good?

The other advantage of split cooling (besides the added volume) is that you don't need to worry about "bubbles" in your system....
My guess is your pump is bad though...

Without the split cooling? that sounds pretty low.
I think im going to go with the Bosch pump. I guess im kind of disappointed the cm30 only lasted 3 years (well only 19k miles).. Ambient temps were aorund 65, so Im definitely thinking 170 and 190 at the end of the 1/4 mile runs is way too high.

I have a used Bosch 010 pump, I put in a new one not knowing someone already had done the upgrade lol
let me know if you want it. You can have it for free , just pay the shipping.

uhh, sorry for the newb question but how can i figure out my IAT? Do I need a datalogger? I feel my car is pulling pretty hard but I have never driven a 55...So I am assuming its fast..i would hate to think i'm a badass only to get spanked when it comes down to GO time.

ELM327 reacts fast enough for IAT's. It's not exactly right in line if you punch it and are watching RPM's, but for the "other stuff", I think it works great. Of course, I also already have 2 Aeroforces and Shardul's pillar work to go in. Just need to find the time, and where to tap for power.

Okay cool.
Sorry off topic but
Where do you go or click in the torque app. I got the pro version and I tried clicking on "start datalogging" and it generated the results in an excel which was complete gibberish to me.

Out Of Control!!
Andrew/Dima, Mike, Brandon and I want to do a drag trip to... I would certainly like to see what my car runs stock after I replace my faulty I/C pump.
I do have a question about heat though, when you pile the ice on the supercharger, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the engine running and spray the heat exchanger down with some C02 so that it cools everything down? This could be total noob status, I've never run a car at the track before

Split your cooling and add a trunk tank with 2 bosch 10 pumps, you will love it.
At 70f ambient the highest IAT I had on the day was 122f at the end of the 1/4. Thats with SC Pulley and larger crank pulley.

Is there a split cooling/trunk tank kit out there?
I am thinking to do this ... also, would an ugpraded EC HE/Bosch 010 pump help as well?
So the setup would be: EC HE, Bosch 010 IC pump, split cooling with trunk tank.

To find out if your IAT's are really a problem you should monitor knock retard as well. Knock/detonation is what will kill your motor.

Monitoring knock is great and also very important, but you don't need to monitor knock to know that your IAT's are killing your power. Monitor advance and watch all your timing get pulled as the IAT's climb.

Perhaps when you replace your pump you wire it to 12v switched power. I wired my cm30 to its own fused circuit when I installed my HE and so far it has been performing well in Houson heat.
Side note, I have been considering a trumk tank with a rule pump. Anyone measure amp draw with two pumps on one circuit?
