Is PPI necessary???
I am about to buy a non certified 2008 e63 with 80k miles from a Mercedes dealership. It looks and drives good and has always been dealership serviced with records. Is a PPI necessary in this case? or am I being overly cautious? Thanks. TC

no such thing as overly cautious when purchasing a vehicle imo. Just because service records are provided doesn't mean the car was beat on or has been in a accident. Spend the extra money and have the piece of mind there is nothing wrong with the car. Its not a Ferrari but it is a high end car and will cost you if something is wrong with it good luck.

I had my PPI done, had to get the valve cover gaskets re-sealed but other than that it was great..
didn't stop me from buying a warranty though... it's paid for $6k in stuff in 15 months of ownership

Depends, how much of a gambling man are ya and how well can you spot problems on a vehicle? Really, get it done. There are a TON of systems you had no idea even existed on the car till something went crazy. Plus a couple hundred can save you many thousands. Doesn't make sense not to in my honest opinion.

Get a ppi done by a different MB dealer then the car is being sold from (obviously). Some dealers in the same area are owned by the same company. Also just because its being sold by a MB dealer does not mean its in good shape. I have worked at a few MB dealers and some are pretty sketchy with the used cars. I say it's $200 or so very well spent. I recommend a ppi in all cases of any car (mb or not) over $10,000 or so. I have done inspections for customers and in a few extreme cases the repair costs to get the car "perfect" exceeded the asking price of the so called "clean" car

Thanks for all the helpful advice, I had my guy look at the E63 and everything checked out. I also got the Easycare powertrain warranty for 2yr/24k miles for $3k for additional piece of mind. Glad to be back in an AMG since getting rid of the CLK55 a couple years ago.

congrats. be careful with Easycare. I used them for the Platinum care and paid $5k. After a few months of owning, they denied some of the problems that i had. At least i got my $$ refunded back to me and have an acct setup for repairs.

Congrats . Easycare used to be one of the best but now they are just average. They tend to send there own parts (aftermarket) so be careful when they pay for repairs. I used to have a easycare warranty myself and they covered everything, but that was a couple of years ago.
