E63 comfort mode jerk

Hi everyone.

I am a lurker here on the boards. I used to drive a 06 E55 until I blew the motor about a week ago.

Now I have a 07 E63 and a couple days ago and I noticed that while the transmission is in D when I switch from Sport to Comfort mode or Manual to Comfort mode, the car lurches/jerks forward. It feels like a really hard shift from the tranny. There are no issues when switching out of Comfort mode, it only happens when engaging it.

Is this normal or is it something I should have checked out before my warranty expires?

I've never experienced transmission lurching before, and certainly not by simply changing driving modes.... Something's not right

If you read your owner's manual, it says not to switch while in motion.

I think the OP means it jerks when he switches it in D and while he's stopped. I figured you should only do it while in motion so that the tranny isn't jerking from 2nd to 1st gear going from C to S or M.

I actually havent tried switching modes while the car is in motion yet, but I had no issues with my E55 whether it was stopped or moving.

Only happens with the car stopped and already in D.

Im having the car checked out soon since I still have a warranty and I will let you guys know what the verdict is. Thanks everyone for the input!

The motor already had alot of oil blow-by. I suspect it was some bad piston rings from a life of hard driving so I knew it was already on its way out.

I pushed her too hard on the freeway late one night and the next thing I know BOOM, & all I can see behind me was smoke. The next morning, it dumped about a quart of oil all over the floor in my garage. Amazingly, the guy I sold it to was able to drive the car 40 miles back home without breaking down LOL.

If you are sitting still, with the car in drive when switching from C to S, you will fell a very slight thump, this is normal. The transmission in C mode always starts off in 2nd gear, when you press the S button it is downshifting into 1st gear while sitting still. I hope that explains it.

This is a normal phenomena, it is just that first or second gear engagement, depending on whether comfort or sport or manual mode was selected. My car has done this from brand new, if that calms your nerves 😁

yuille is correct there. the change from 2nd (comfort) to 1st(sport) is abrupt if you're doing so at given times like at a stop.
