DIY windshield chip repair recommendations
Can anyone recommend a DIY fix for a rock chip in the windshield? Only about 1/4 inch now. Want to do something before the Texas summer turns it into 12".

There are several products sold at auto parts stores, but you would likely be better off having a company do it....Either way, the fixes are just temporary (IMHO) and look like crap after a while.

Don't DIY it. Just go to an auto glass shop to do it. It will cost you about 40bucks. I has mine done and it was better than before but it still sucks. They have to drill a hole on the first layer to pervent it from cracking. You will see a small dot when it's done.

My windshield is so bad now that even the guys who try to hit you up at the gas station look at my windshield and say "I can't take your money, you need a new windshield."
Which is about $900.
Which is about $900.

There is a DIY kit sold at auto parts stores I use. It's 10-12$.
I've had windshield shops turn a chip into a huge 2' l crack so I try my fix.
My fix ranges from almost perfect to just a filler.
After about 5 fixes I'm getting better with my technique. A lesson learned when they say to firmly press the suction cup over the chip don't get carried away. I turned a small chip into a long crack one time.

I used a two part epoxy from Autozone that lasted 6.5 years. It is actually still doing fine, but last week a little rock hit my windshield and within two days here in the AZ heat it was about 18" long.
If you are replacing your windshield, I'm actually using one of those Valpak coupons for a local place. I called my insurance and told them who I wanted to use and that I wanted an OEM windshield. My insurance covered up to $760 so the local place is doing all the paperwork, etc. and I get $80 cash.
On a side note, whenever I hear that these windshields are free and just replace them if you have a rock chip, well, it is a cost for your insurance, which ultimately, gets handed down to you. I'd always try to repair a rock chip first, especially after my own experience with my first attempt at a repair lasting so long.

Hey! Dealing with a rock chip in the windshield is never fun. I had a similar situation, and the Crack Eraser DIY Windshield Repair Kit came to the rescue. I sorted out a smaller chip for me, and you can find it at<!--td {border: 1px solid #cccccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->https://crackeraser.com/products/bas...eld-repair-kit. It's a straightforward solution before things heat up in the Texas summer. Let me know if you have any questions about my experience! 😊
