Just for fun.... My 1/4 mile time slip

I invite you to critique, comment, etc.

This app (Bosch Light 'Em Up Dyno) has been on my phone forever.

The other day I found an open stretch of road (in Mexico) and did an impromptu run (85 degrees, street tires, A/C on full blast, etc). No real launch technique... Just floored it. The tires didn't spin, it hooked pretty hard but bogged off the line for a brief second (60-ft time is lousy) but after that it pulled pretty hard, even for a hot day. Didn't notice any heat soak at the top end.

Anyway, it was pretty fun. I'd never done any sort of instrumented testing before and it was cool to be able to gather data with nothing more sophisticated than my phone.

Curious to hear if anyone else plays around with apps like this ?

Just MBH headers, Quaife and a Eurocharged tune.... And a fresh "010" Bosch pump.

That trap is solid. Should get you well into the 11's on a well prepped track.

Im not sure how accurate that is, but 30 mph on the back 1/8 mile is very good

Thanks! It definitely feels strong on the top end. Running the stock pulley with a nice set of headers really must help control heatsoak....

I've got the Dynolicious app and I keep forgetting about it. Also, my DashDAQ can do performance testing with the GPS input. I need to try it.

Nice Greg! I did mine a while back. Very similar results but I'm getting heat soaked. Check the hp curve. Too bad I didn't have a little bit longer road.

I downloaded that app last year, but never tried it. Don't really have many roads around that stay empty enough.

What's the app called exactly? I need to download this and test my car out tomorrow! And how does it work exactly? Do you just run the program and the program picks it up?

Thanks fellas

The one I have is called Bosch Light 'Em Up.

They apparently licensed the Dynolicious technology for measuring acceleration, etc using the accelerometer on your phone. One thing I will tell you is that the results are only as good as our ability to keep the phone firmly anchored. You can't just hold the phone in your hand to test. I put a small anti-skid pad on my center console...then out the phone on that. When I did my runs I would also press down gently on the phone case to make sure it wasn't shifting around. Remember, you are measuring with the accelerometers....so if they are wiggling around, you will be getting anomalous readings and bad results.

I'm not sure how accurate it is relative to a real dragstrip, but you can still learn a whole lot about how to launch properly by practicing your 60' times, or watching the peak Gs from your runs , etc.

I was planning on trying some new runs with ESP off, A/C off, putting maybe 1000rpms into the converter before flooring it, etc. I might learn something new that my car likes better for hard launches....

You matched your drag strip run with an app? That would be sweet.
