Navigation Disc Needed
Not a problem to jump versions. However, if it hasn't been done yet, you have to update the Comand (via the in dash cd slot).
Use the service CD (cd 211 589 14 22 00 ) to update the COMAND Head Unit to software version 46/06.
Also the Nav processor needs to be updated, via the nav drive in the trunk (cd 211 589 15 22 00)

So that 46/06 is the newest version? anything i should do or is it just that you insert these and its good to go?
It's the newest ver that adds features/updates. There is a 2 yr newer disc that "fixed" certain problems, if you have them. (if you don't, I'd stick with 46/06)
Namely :
• During start up, the head unit displays a certain radio station but actually plays another station within the same or different frequency band.
• When the user is in radio mode, the station switches on its own usually to the lowest frequency or to the first preset if they are stored by the user.
• Head unit resets (turns OFF and back ON).
• Head unit hangs up and possibly resets during a telephone book down load in vehicles equipped with a Cellular Telephone System.
• While the vehicles is running, the user cannot load an audio disc into the head unit Compact Disc (CD) player, or if the disc is accepted, it may not be played unless the ignition is turned OFF and then ON allowing MOST and CAN buses to go to sleep.
• Intermittent audio not available at system start up for up to 30 seconds and the MB star hangs up on the head unit display.
For the one I referenced (and the newer one too), the following is the update procedure:
For the NAV processor, in the trunk, this is the procedure:

Note: The software update process is very sensitive, DO NOT press any buttons on the head unit, or turn the ignition OFF or ON at any time during the update process.
Once you have the CD, power up your COMAND unit, briefly hold down 1,3,8 at the same time, and the service screen should come up asking you to insert the CD. Insert the CD and the update will begin automatically. VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT CHANGE SETTINGS OR TURN IGNITION ON OR OFF DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS.
Once the CD is done updating, it will eject the CD and the COMAND unit will restart itself. That's all there is to it.

To use this DVD - turn on the ignition key and COMAND and press the MAP button. In the drive in the trunk, eject the current Navi-DVD and insert the Navigation Service DVD. You will see two progress bars on the screen on the COMAND. After a few minutes and very little movement of the progress bars, the COMAND will restart. Then insert the new Navi-DVD. The update will continue for a few minutes. Afterwards, you will see a valid map appear and you will be using the updated Navi-DVD. It was recommended to reset the MOST bus by turning off the key and waiting about three minutes before using the system to ensure it is reset.

Also where can I obtain an upgraded Australian navigation DVD?
Those cd's will only work in a U.S. spec Comand. What do you have in Australia, Audio 50, like Europe?
Or, is your car a U.S. import? If it is, then of course the discs will work.

Never heard of Audio 50? It's an Australian delivered E55. Just checked the options and it comes up as "COMAND DVD APS WITH NAVIGATION"

Hypothetically, I've " heard" you can download the file from the shadows of the internet and burn your own copy of newer NAV discs. Not that I would have ever done that for my e55 or my Chevy Suburban.
I did it but there was only 1 guy seeding the latest nav disk and it legit took 2 weeks....5-25kbs
