I don't use gloves for that. The gloves are just there so the pumps don't get poopy.

These pumps looked to be the same size as the ones in the basket.

Speaking of which, how do you get the pumps out of the basket? I haven't tried yet, but I don't want to break anything. If I could lift those old ones out without removing the baskets from the tank, that would be clutch.

Need more info on those. I had a similar idea. It would probably stabilize the seal as well.

You could have any set of pumps you want hanging from it then.

It's the hat only, meant to be compatible with the stock buckets. The connector is rated at 40 amps while the stocker is rated at half that. No leaks, able to support big power on returnless systems without the risk of melting plastic right next to power/ground and fuel...

There is no more info, I'm making a single unit for my car

Lol, sneaky. I just got the new rods in for the spring retention. I'll incorporate them soon and do a test fit/function in the next couple weeks. After that, I'll probably pull it back out and take some meat out of it. After some extensive testing, I'll consider one group buy... but stuff like this isn't cheap

Where did you source the connector? I'd like to be up and running within a month, so I might redneck-engineer my own solution.

Aftermarket company that builds billet fuel hats. They would not give me their source, would not sell me multiple connectors, and I have yet to find a work around

I called the dealer to see if I could get the harness. The parts guy knew what I was talking about and said they have the harness in stock for about $19. He said there are a few more parts they have that I might need. Gonna go check it out tonight and get some part numbers.

They were not the parts I needed. the parts guy encouraged me to bring my car in to have them replace everything under warranty and brought me to a service advisor. I expressed concern over being denied coverage and then having to pay diagnosis fee and he told me that they have not declined anyone yet at their location. I might just accept a loaner for a couple of weeks then.

I ended up getting a new OEM fuel pump assembly from ECS Tuning with the newest MB part number. Manufacturing date stamped on it was around September 2014. Comparing it with the old unit in the tank, the hat part that houses the connector for the harness appears to be the updated part. One strange thing is that the plug on top of the hat has been rotated 180 degrizzles, so you'll have to bend that big plug and stiff cable around to plug it in.

I put the pumps in and the car would not run for more than 30 seconds (I made a thread about this). Putting the old pump assembly back in worked. I started swapping components one by one until I found the culprit. Luckily for me, it was the first component... the hat with the updated harness. The old pumps did the same thing the new pumps did. I pulled the old pumps, put the new ones in, and connected them to the old harness, and they worked.

I inquired about getting just the replacement hat/harness, but since it's an OEM part, I'd have to pull the pumps and send the entire assembly back. Here's the real kick to the (huge, massive, handsome) nuts: I need to have a shop invoice stating the part is defective in order to make the return. I'm like, "How about a video of both sets of pumps running fine with the old harness and them not running with the new harness?" But I'm not a shop, so that isn't good.

I used my multimeter to test for an open in the harness, but they are all good. I suspect that one set of pins on the connectors is swapped. Hansel better pay attention on that assembly line. Take a gander at the pics below.

I'm glad I read this. My gauge is off now after swapping the pumps (full tank indicates 5/8 on the gauge) and this is the first thing I thought of.

^That's what I'm talking aboot! If the pin-swap doesn't work, I'll probably return it.

Also, I might need to borrow your special tool to remove that collar from the driver's side sending unit. It's on there really tight.

I see no reason the pin-swap won't work, and they're not that hard to depin. A strap wrench or an old serpentine belt should take care of the collar

Update: It was indeed a case of crossed wires. I pulled the old one and then tested both with a multimeter. Old one went 1-2-3-4 and new one went 2-1-3-4. One pump was running backwards. You can see it in the photo above, where the old one wire colors are brown/red/brown/red and the new one went brown/red/red/brown.

I was going to test it out yesterday as I had just installed a new fuel sender, but it looks like I was sent the wrong part
