Why do some cars have way more torque than others?

I some times see cars with comparable mods and while the HP and overall power fluctuates due to temp, dyno, smoothing factors etc there still seems to be some car with 100ft lbs over their HP where as mine has 10 ft lbs more torque than HP. My car has similar mods to eurocharged stage 2 substitute long tubes for short tubes and a mid pipe w/resonator and cat delete with X pipe. EC shows 600hp and 670ft lbs. Minus 15% this is about 510hp and 570 at the tire. Or if you subscribe to autos zapping 20% roughly 480hp and 536ft lbs. On the rollers my car made 461hp and 471ft lbs. it's just curious to me how some cars seem to make all the same HP as the rest of us yet some of you guys get ridonkulous torque numbers. Is it all in the tune or is it luck or how do I get another 60 ft lbs? Lol

Post up your dyno sheet and full mod list. Could be as simple as the dyno not being started at a low enough rpm.

Crank pulley, header sizing, fuel type and tuning are the main factors determing tq.

Great question. Dyno numbers depend on so many factors. Ambient temp is one and what about your IAT temp? Barometric pressure and engine knock retard are others. Did you cool down the car before dyno run? Your numbers seem a bit soft for your current mods.

Yeah who knows. Previous owner took it but I feel it's safe to assume they did their diligence. I'm just curious cause I'm noticing quite a few that have a large differential between torque and HP. It's interesting to see how much they vary.

Your tq seems low but only way to tell is to run it at the track.

I would set up a time with Jerry to do a custom dyno tune. You may be leaving a lot on the table with the box tune.

Dyno, dyno, dyno...different temps, dif dynos, whatever...who cares? How does the car run...that's what matters! Good luck with it either way but just run someone with more or similar mods...even a guy with less mods...just see how it compares to others actually running!

Get a custom tune and you should see an improvement.

Look at the power difference between the afr between those to runs. One is two rich and one is to lean. Why is there such a difference in the AFR in those runs?

I think the context is being lost here. I'm not really complaining about low numbers, just trying to understand the HP/torque differentials among our cars.

on my dynojet for what ever reason my vehicles always showed a lower torque then others but as long as the curve is good thats what matters also my cars usually ran quicker compared to ones that just showed a high number.

The difference among cars is all the variables. Mods, Dyno, weather, tune, dyno operators feeling that day.

Here is the perfect example, his numbers suck but look at his track runs (they are in his sig at the bottom of his posts), impressive for what's done to the truck. He knows that his dyno is low but it is the difference from before and after, if anything!

I kinda said this already but all of this said here can be a huge difference.

Jerry does remote tunes...you send him logs and he tweaks the tune....you do this a number of times until things are quite nice ....That is what I did and I too live in California....

No reason to ignore this if you actually are leaving some power on the table.

I was under the assumption that a wideband and logger minimum was needed to successfully accomplish this. I don't have a wideband.

Well I have a wideband and use it for my logging, but Jerry / EC has a new tool that somehow gets accurate enough fuel information from the OBD2....It has to be narrow band, but somehow it is good enough for his tuning.

Call EC and they will explain...

Yes its possible but you need very good working O2 Sensors (front ones) for that. I would not trust some 50.000Miles+ old O2 sensors for those infos.
Also how does he do this with the fuel trim values? Before he can use the data you need to reset the ECU, right???
