380mm rotor available for e55 amg?

Hey guys..

Im new here..

I actually am doing a custom brake setup for another vehicle.. but I am using 8 piston calipers from a 2006 E55 AMG.

I was wondering if maybe some of you can help me out..

Is there a single piece 380mm rotor available with the same offset at the factory 350mm rotor from the E55 AMG?

I just didn't want to dip into the cost of 2piece rotors if possible.

I already have caliper brackets available for using the 8 piston brembos on the 350mm .. I could easily make a spacer to allow for 380mm rotors if the rotors have the same offset..

Does anyone have specs of rotor offset?

Thanks for any help you can lend!

Don't have any specs but you may want to look into w164 ML63 rotors. If I remember correctly the w166 ML/GL 63's also have large 1 piece rotors. No other MB is coming to mind with 1 piece rotors that size. are these going on a M45?

Hey thanks for the reply man...

I looked those up.. they are listed at a 390mm rotor.. wow.. huge!

I believe the thickness is both 36mm thick..

From some of the research I did.. It looks like the rotor hat offset of the 63 may be a little too short. (Making the caliper closer to the back of the wheel face. (giving less caliper clearance)

I will have to do some more digging..

Here is the specs from the 2006 E55 AMG 8 piston caliper .. rotor

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...806&cc=1432296

and here is the specs from the rotor from a 2011 ML63 ( Not sure which caliper)

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...228&cc=1447299

I am actually uncertain what "height" means in those drawings.. If it is the offset of rotor hat as in terms of "height".. or does it mean pad sweep area/actual friction ring?

and yes! This is for a 2007 M45 Sport. Also.. these will be working on 370Z and G37 etc platforms as well as Z32 etc ..

Thanks for any help you have lent! Please if you hear any more info.. let me know!

Thanks!

The height means the off-set,,

*(2003-2006) "E55/CLC55/SL55" front Rotors comes with "360x36", and "64.5mm" off-set,

*(2007-2011) "ML63/R63" front Rotors comes with "390x36", and "55.1mm" off-set,,

you can shoot an E-mail to out fine friend "Warren" from RB brakes, his a professional brake expert....

Thanks guys..

I did email warren over at racingbrake too..

Any of you guys know anyone that may have an old 2007-2011 ML63 390mm rotor available? It is ok if it is damaged or grooved etc.. I am only using it to see if a bracket is possible while still clearing my wheel design. Not llooking to spend alot just to see if this is feasible

Thanks for your help!

One thing to keep in mind is that 390 mm rotor won't clear the stock wheels of 18 inch.

I was looking into the same endeavour but ran into the same problem.

There are also 410 mm rotors lol I've seen those on Porsche but those will also run only on 19 inch or bigger wheels.

Let us know if you find a bigger size than OEM which we could still run under

factory wheels

Haha..

These are actually going on a (sorry! haha) 2007 Infiniti m45 sport.

I have 22" wheels.. and the 14" brakes I have now look like tiny baby brakes lol.

I will definitely follow up with what I find out..

Hopefully someone will have a set of old ML63 rotors they dont need that are junkers.. would help me out tons!

Thanks!
Shawn

I saw this on facebook where some 300zx shop was fabricating E55 brakes to fit on their cars.

Yep.. thats the same guy..

I have been talking to him about if he is making them work for the G37, 370z etc platform.

He said its in the works..

But I have been talking to him mainly about using the 390mm rotor since 14" look small .. even under 20" wheels IMO..

His name is Doug.. He is the owner of Fever Racing in Florida..

Seems like a stand up guy.. real helpful with any questions I have had

So just for the looks eh cuz otherwise 8 piston caliper on cars that are so light seems like an

overkill to me. I could be wrong.

Not all mainly for looks.. but yes.. overkill I'm sure.

although; The number of pistons doesn't really add much braking performance.. It just adds better pad pressure distribution.. allowing a larger pad to be used and have equal amounts of pressure.

But yea... kinda ricey to do something for looks.. but I cannot stand a large wheel with small brakes.. Even though the Akebono 14" I have aren't small..and brake great. Buttt..they look tiny..

Plus, the caliper design of the 4 piston akebono is very large at the base.. which required me to run a 5mm spacer.. which now sets my wheel at the outside of the fender and is getting super close to rubbing fender... and I hate running spacers.. even if its only 5mm.

If I find a 390mm ML63 rotor.. the 15.4" radius will pull the caliper away from the center of the wheel hub (which with my wheel design kinda concaves out) so I should have more clearance . I already have the E55 AMG 8 piston calipers here..

Once I get a set of 390mm ML63 rotor (even one would be fine).. I can redrill the hub.. zip tie the caliper up to see if it will allow me to clear my wheel without spacers.. If I can... I'll move forward with the brackets..

here are some pics if you are interested.. I know its no MB.. but FWIW.. I do plan on doing one in the future

The Drop is perrrfect

I actually was looking into getting a C230/C300 sport.. but for what the mileage was on the one I was looking at.. I dont think it was worth it..

I would loooove to do a ML63 though

Looks good I think you are better off with a m45 than a c300 anyways. Did I just say that the m45 is closer to the level of a e500-550 and is not the entry level car that a c300 is. The only c class worth owning is a amg. See sig

Don't hold your breath but there is a ml63 going through the cpo process at my dealer right now and "if" the rotors get replaced ill ship them to you at your expense.

No go on the rotors, the used car dept is only doing pads. Rotors are still in spec so is not required for them to replace the rotors. try posting on the amg ml board that you are looking for a front rotor.

As far as bad a$$ benz's there is one for every budget. Something like a c43 can be had for as little as $6k and will run forever. I'm a little biased though

It's the closest silver car
