Muffler, exhaust, CAT question

Hello,

My goal is to get a bit throaty sound out of the stock system.

Now IIRC we have primary cats, then secondary, then resonators , then muffler and then finally everything outta exhaust.

The secondary CAT doesn't have a cut out on it (as in no oxygen sensor or any sensor).

What do I remove to get a throaty rumble without that annoying drone on long trips or any trips for that matter ?

I was told since the secondaries don't have any sensors on them , taking them out won't cause any engine check light.

Now is that true ?

I want just a bit more growl which as of now I only get if I am over 3,000 rpm ??

Thanks in advance

I have my secondaries and resonator removed with an X pipe in place. The sound is a little more noticeable but not throaty. There is also no check engine light for me. You may want to consider headers.

i cut my resonator - adds a little more noise but nothing crazy...

maybe get some C63 or CLS mufflers - those will wake things up

I have secondary cat and resonator delete and still seems like it needs to be louder. Might change out my mufflers soon.

I am doing the same. Im current looking for a x pipe on ebay and gonna get my res and secondary cats deleted. If you want a drastic change and not spend to much, you can find a c63 or cls55 exhaust on the other forums they usually have a couple people looking to sell their used exhaust systems.

So taking out the muffler and resonator won't do anything ?

The guys with no resonator and muffler, do you have that annoying drone?

All I gotta do is take out resonator and muffler and put a 3 inch pipe in place right ?

Any pics , just to be sure what a resonator and muffler is ? lol

So Did you get an annoying drone or anything ?

I reckon yours and mine have exactly the same mods other than you just bought the Kleeman headers

Get an x pipe. I bought the first one I listed above. Find a exhaust shop and ask them you want to put in an x pipe in and get your resonator and secondary cats deleted and that's all you can really do without going into big mods like a whole exhaust system or headers.

Hey buddy,

If possible, please make before and after videos. It'll give an exact idea of how it'll sound.

Sounded throaty from inside your shop. I think this is a good first step as a muffler shop will do it for cheap. If you want more sound CLS, C63 mufflers are the way to go.

What is the driving force that would rationalize using a 20 dollar cheap, mild steel Xpipe on a factory OEM stainless steel exhaust system? At least go with a stainless part so it can be welded in place unless of course you use clamps and this will not be a permanent item.

no need for an x-pipe if you keep your 2ndaries - there's already an H-pipe connection there...

Thanks buddy,

But for some reason your sounds quieter than mine lol or maybe it's the camera ?

I , also think that driving the car would create a different sound compared to just parked and revving. I could be wrong but that's what I think.

Thanks again

Remove resonators, find a set of C63 or E63 mufflers. Or do like i did and buy a GT exhaust and remove resonators:

Did any of you that deleted the resonator experience any power loss down low?
