Filled 8.5 Quarts of oil. Oil level showing 7.2? wtf?

Just like the title says, I did an oil change. I drained both oil pans, changed the filter, and have filled up about 8.5 quarts of oil. I ran the car at idle to full operating temperature and did the "reset 3x times trick" to read the oil level and it won't go past 7.2.

How is this possible? Prior it read 8.5, and correct me if im wrong i want the screen to read 9.0.

Thanks in advance!

FINAL UPDATE AND NOTES:

The display in the car should read minimum 7.2 for the system to say ok. At 7.8 the car will say reduce oil. Will a full drain and letting it sit for an hour to drain I filled a total of 8 quarts to hit the exact mark MB asks for.

Sensors reads the level in the rear sump only. You are fine.

So it would seem that the previous change was overfilled then, since it read 8.5?

A full system should read close to 7.5 after hot shut off (approx 1 hour) level ground.

Oh boy... After driving to work this morning my car is telling me the level is 8.4

I'm assuming I need to drain a quart now?

Are you getting this reading while the engine is running or after shut off? If its during engine running the readings are all over the place (normal). if its after shut off you HAVE to make sure the car is on perfectly level ground to get an accurate reading.
If you drained both sumps and replaced the filter and refilled with 8.5 quarts you are actually .5 quarts low. Which is perfectly fine.

This is after driving the car for 25 miles, parking for 30-45 minutes then doing the 3x reset button. The cars on level ground and I actually just tested it once more in a different spot to confirm.

8.5 is filled and 8.5ish is showing on the screen. Sounds like I'm ok?

In the future to get it exactly where it should be, what is the screen suppose to read? How accurate is it? Do most buy a dipstick?

Thanks!
