Hi
Ok did you do the modification to make them work or did you pay someone to do it?
What exact year/month build is your E55?
I am trying to ascertain if some E55's had different plugs depending on when they were built. I heard a rumour all the 2003's and some early 2004's had one style of plug and the later E55's had another style.
I am interested to know how to do the conversion as well.
Regards,
OZZYAMG

03 and 04 models require the converter box. Sometime in the 05 build they switched to the newer style that will work without the converter. The connector is different, but other than that it's plug and play. My February/05 built 05 model has the new style button switches.
that is essentially correct. Early e55s used an analog configuration where as later e55s were digital. The converter module re-creates the analog signal(s) so that the new paddles can be used in the early cars.
for those who want to know for sure, you can lift one button out and read the vendor's part number on it then refer to this chart
note:
1) and 4) are the long style buttons (SL, CLK, etc)
2) and 3) pertain to e55 (2 is early, 3 is later)
1) 870273-0000 870273-0001 early (no/nc) long buttons NO "y" harness use PLUG-N-PLAY MODULE
2) 870273-0002 870273-0003 early (no/nc) short buttons w/"y" harness use PLUG-N-PLAY MODULE (-0012 and -0013 same but gray)
3) 870273-0004 870273-0005 later (no/NO) short buttons w/"y" harness PLUG-N-PLAY (but requires adapter "Y" harness)
4) 870273-0010 870273-0011 later (no/NO) long buttons plugs direct already plug-n-play
cheers,
Chris

So looks like the 2004 guys can do the mod as well without having to buy the converter box by simply just replacing the circuit board.. but if you dont want to deal with all that stuff than you just get the box converter which is OEM plug and play type deal.. your choice
Below i quoted a fellow members pictures the way he did it.. Thank you MJ50,

Hi
I would guess that for the 2003/04 E55 owners it is better to still use the converter box so you have an original steering wheel you can keep as a working spare or even sell if you like.

OZZYAMG

no, the base of 63 paddle shifter is longer than 55... thus, u need to cut the back of the stock steering wheel...

Worth pointing out, the paddle converter comes with paddle mounting screws and a template for modifying the pockets in the wheel.
While some of the integrations of amg55 button guts into AMG63 paddles are pretty impressive (pics above may be the best I've seen) ... there is always a concern about "feel" .... so, I created this electronic solution (converter box) because I wanted a bullet-proof plug and play solution that does not require upsetting the perfect feel of the AMG 63 paddle nor does it potentially compromise the structural integrity of the paddle.
I am happy to answer any questions about the module or installing paddles . I have modified more than 100 wheels for paddles and I have pics, etc if anyone needs a little help with this.
Cheers,
Chris

My steering wheel will work with anyone that has 05 or 06 with nothing needed, not even a converter box, as its already pre fitted there with the black model pedals which are also same base as the 63 pedals.
