Question folding rear seats..wtf

Whenever i fold my rear seats down, the drivers and passenger seats come ALL THE WAY forward and up to the point where it is nearly impossible to drive. It leaves about a 13in gap (+/-) between the rear seat headrest and the back of the front seats but it wont let me move the seats backwards into a more realistic/comfortable position. Is this normal? Shouldn't i be able to readjust the seats? TIA

its a factory option. It has release handles in the trunk similar to the E46 M3's.

It would double the utility when making HomeDepot runs.

So the front seats automatically move forward when the rear seats are releases to fold down? Might need to reset the range adjustment in DAS.

Why the hell is this an OPTION...every car i have ever owned at some point i have had to fold the seats down .. for the guys that dont currently have this option... are your seats even separated and able to fold? seems like it may actually be an extensive retrofit..

I was curious what the handles were for in the trunk (I am new to the car) so I pulled them when I first got my E63 and I saw the front seat move forward. It didn't move all the way forward, just a little. I would then imagine you should be able to adjust it? I'll have to test it out.

Nope. Solid, fixed rear seats.

You can fix this by pushing the tab down on the rear deck lid where the backseat would clip onto. This would simulate that you didn't have the seats folded.

My front seats move on their own. However, they only move enough to clear the seats when folded down.Once the seats are in the down position, it allows me to move the seat front seat back to the point it contacts the rear seat. It wont go back to my "normal" driving position, but I can still get in the car and drive and I am not a small guy by any means.

I have this option and it does go back

07 e63 folding move the one front seat forward the is being folded down. So if I move pass side rear seat down pass side front seat will move up. but it will let me move it back once the rear seat is down.
This is true for both side rear seat front and will move back...
Its a nice option to have....

Folding down the passenger side will move the front passenger seat all the way up, so you cannot move it back. It's a safety feature b/c when you put the rear passenger seat down, the passnger airbag is disabled.

The driver side however, can be adjusted back after it initially moves forward to make room for the bottom part of the seat. (i'm not doubting you may have a problem, but this is how it is supposed to work)

My 2004 E500 had the folding rear seats but I could move the front seats back as far as the (folding) headrests on the rear seats would allow.

I wonder if this is similar to the issue with folding rear seats in the W212 cars (hate the folding seats in my 2011 E550 for just this reason). I wonder if your late model W211 has the same software as the W212s - might be worth checking with a dealer to see if they can apply a fix that eases the problem with front seats being pushed too far forward (and with silly seat back positions). I've seen posts stating this has been done for W212 cars.

This can only be addressed by STAR, I have this changed on my vehicle as well. You can also do a "Flashing Rear Break Light" mod through STAR. Essentially causing the break lights to flash whenever breaking aggressively (can't remember the parameters for causing the flashing break lights, but I have seen what it looks like).
