AMG needs DSG or PDK
After driving my S8 around for a few weeks; when I get back in E63 the transmission feels like a slug.
I am hopping AMG will soon update the trans in its all AMG line up. I could only imagine the performance improvement if I had a DSG or PDK in my 07 E63.
Just a thought.

I love DCT in the M3s I've driven. If your 7speed feels ancient imagine how the 5 speed slush box feels.

I am sure a transmission tune on those 6 speed transmissions could make them much better than they are stock. The E55 with 5 speed just suffers from the very long gearing so there is a large drop in rpm between shifts which makes the shifts take longer. With more gears like the E63 the ratios are closer together so it takes less time for the rpm to drop to where it needs to be, get a tune if one is available and I am sure it could be better.
My CTS-V 6 speed transmission isn't very fast stock but with a tune you can make them shift very quick. I am happy with mine and I have a medium grade tune for quickness and firmness. I would definitely check in to tcu tunes for the E63, adjust the torque limiting and start rocking and rolling.

AMG has the dual clutch tranny but it goes to the SLS and your right, its a shame for non modders. All the others get the MCT... but the CLA will get the dual clutch right???
The MCT is a planetary auto and slower shifting but....... it can handle the tq mods which the pdk and DSG can not. The latest RS7 will not get the S tronic dual clutch and the 997.2 TT's with PDK (I owned one) are capped on their tq limitations. So for the modders in us the MCT is not a bad option but you dont have that in your 07...
Oh and isnt your S8 a normal 8 speed automatic? Audi's DSG's are 7 speeds... ?????

I drove a 2011 911 PDK and 13 M5 (my brothers) with DSG....it is night a day compared to 7G.

CLA is getting the dual clutch. S8 is an 8 speed, it is always in the sweet spot and shifts are barely noticeable. Whats funny is you don't feel like you are going fast till you see the speedometer.

My M5 DCT and M6 DCT are fast but the PDK in my 991 C4S is still both fast and violent in sport plus-- I can pull 2nd gear chirps in it which is incredible for that car and the tranny.
I always felt the TCU's played a large role in the various DCT's Ive owned with the PDK being the best with BMW a close 2nd. I have had 6 dual clutch cars: 3 BMW's, GTR, 2 Porsche's

Come on, Vic ... I'm disappointed in you little sissy ... I drive my M5 in the most aggressive settings, which means TC off. The only annoying thing is (when programmed into M1 or M2) that you have to "confirm" that TC is off every time you start the car ... but I can assure you, not only does it chirp, the *** slides as well.

I also have a tune on my M6 with 50 hp more to the wheels thru the sweet spot (aka Press Tune)- have you heard of this? Well worth the mod.

Bro I drive in DSC off in the M5 and M6 (I have both)---- the 991 is far more violent as its actually forward shifting. This was the same with my 997.2 Turbo PDK as well. We all know we slide left and right in a f10 or f13 DCT with DSC off... my car is a C4S... so remember that. I should have clarified AWD and in auto mode with traction control on in a 400 hp PDK car. Anyone can shift slide a rwd car with 500 plus hp.

By forward shifting, you mean instead of pulling the lever back on the M5 pushing it forward on the PDK?

If you think that...
then you haven't driven the very latest trannies in the AMG cars. In addition, Mercedes has proven thru decades that they simply cannot/will not make a decent manual.

I agree about the manual. I think an ultra fast automatic would be worthwhile, but what I don't get is how mercedes can have the strongest, fastest cars the last 10 years and have **** trannys. Handling wise is way behind too.. My neighbors minivan handles better than my car lol

I am actively looking for E63 replacement...looked at M6 (in blue) good package but felt like the car was huge and missing the handling in my mind (I think of the size and weight) and sound of the engine/car sucked. DSG was awesome, quick crisp shifts.
Waiting for the 14 e63 s to hit the market. Also looking at preowned SLS but havent test driven it yet.

the E63 didn't feel that great compared to the E55 to me... almost seems like they tuned it to be more comfort biased. the C63 has a far more aggressive transmission.
i drove the SLS and it lurched and jerked a lot in first gear at creeping speeds, but it was nice on track. i sure hope that fixed that. truth be told, I enjoy a good ol automatic. the E55 is quite good, in my experience. feels like the SLR i drove... which was quite nice after a day of Ferrari's and Lamborghini's with their clunky transmissions.
