Wait until you get a proper inlet. Are you ready for the 100mm yet?

Good job on the 90mm, would love to see some dyno and track numbers!
OK - have booked my car to get reflashed by MB on the 15th Oct will then reload my EC file and report back what happens.

They are not entirely sure what they will be doing yet, they know my car as I have used them for years. I told them that I wanted them to return to stock but to ensure that all updates for my ECU were also applied. I told them not to test drive it apart from idle and low load driving, also not to worry about errors on EGR, SEC Air or Cats as I don't have any of them fitted. They were not very keen to be honest but managed to twist there arm. They still might back out so will keep you posted.

Sweet mod denrol!

It looks great, It's about time someone posted a 90mm install on our cars. I wonder how much better a custom manifold would work on there? That weird cone thing on the inside of the manifold would need to be duplicated as well right?

Have you considered a custom 3.5" or 4" intake setup with aluminum y pipe?

I definitely do want to get a custom intake... as big as possible. Problem is finding a fabricator that will do it and not charge me a million. I want to get a welder and try it myself, but that won't be until next year.

Where "is" the nearest 1/4 mile track?

EDIT: I remember it was all about LACR back-in-the-day, it's a shame now that it's all gone.

PIN assignment

Good writ up and nice to see there’s folks working on improving performance when most people think there’s nothing more to be gained …..

I’m upgrading to the 82 mm and even people say its plug & play the information I have found regarding PIN assignment from the 74 mm to the MB 82 mm. doesn’t show the same ….. do you have the PIN assignment for the 82 mm. you just pulled off?

Haha, that would be sweet. I'm just shooting for a 10.99999 @ whatever and I'll be happy. Good news is that I am moving and will be 5 miles from an NHRA 1/4 mile track in Tucson. The bad news? 3,000+ft. elevation.

I was unsing an Audi TB and IIRC, I think it was pins 2 and 4 that were swapped. That was a while back.

I didn't take any before/after measurements, but I've seen the number +40hp thrown around for the 82mm swap. It's definitely noticeable, especially up top.

Yep, that's about what I saw over stock. I've posted all my dyno and 1/4mike results for all the basic mods over the past 7 years so it's around here somewhere...

i wouldnt mind trying the 82mm in the future i bet there is a little massaging that can be done on that inlet where tb goes.

I recently mentioned about how key the bigger TB is to making these cars run well (info. I got from a friends friend...now my friend) and he mentioned the 100mm TB. He said that was the key to 10's!!! I will find out all I can for you guys on how he made his work.

I am curious as to your guess on how much you gained Denroll? Just a guess unless you had it dyno'd and I missed that part.

I heard it works though...some feedback would be great from anyone who knows if anyone on here has tried the 100mm TB?

What did your car have for mods to run 10.80's? Great runner you have! Trying to make sure that we can get 'cntrlins' car to go 10's!

So conceptually......

If you open up the exhaust side of the motor with a set of longtubes, etc and then open up the intake side with a TB like this, is it accurate to say that you add power WITHOUT adding the heat you'd normally get by doing a conventional pulley swap (either upper or lower pulley)???

I'm curious if there would be value for me to pursue a TB upgrade as my next performance mod since all I've got so far are the MBH longtubes... pulleys are easy HP/TQ but always require LOTS of attention on the cooling side of the equation if you want consistent power on back-to-back runs.

I'm waiting on a new tune file and then I'm going to go get a dyno run. I've got one 3 miles down the street. Last run I did was summer 2012. It was 94 degrees, I was on the 82mm TB and the clutched pulley and I made 527whp. Now I've got the 90mm, the fixed pulley (4mm smaller, too), meth, and it is a lot cooler now so hopefully some magic will happen and I can make 528.

Yes, for sure. Removing those in/out restrictions gives you a higher volume of air at a lower pressure (boost), the latter being the key to lower temps. Another big benefit is increased fuel economy as the engine isn't fighting as hard to pump air in and out. Too bad headers and TB aren't as cheap and easy as a pulley swap as they are the ideal first mods.
