I'm strongly considering selling my car and getting a 2007 E63... I can't decide between the refinement of the E63 or the tunability and performance of the E55 at elevation with the supercharger. Decisions decisions

E63 out of the box fast and powerful, the 55 just as fast out of the box but with 3-5 thousand more added for mods blows up faster. All the tuning and pulley options and cooling fixes to me are just a headache, because no matter what is done to a 55 there is always someone else with higher numbers with more money laid out. The 63 is plenty enough car and has not thrown out cels, went limp, got heat soaked or let me down yet!! It is a matter of preference and time input, drive or drive and throw money at it. IMO But whatever the choice they are both fine automobiles.

No offense to any 07 owners, but I've seen my share of 07 E63's having some serious issues. I would consider going high in the year range (09+) if you want a E63.

Not within my price range yet but the 2007 E63 seems great from what I've heard, what issues are you talking about? Being naturally aspirated I assume they are a lot more reliable than the E55 V8 Kompressor out of box. Thanks for the insight critter

the gasket and bolts are not a big fix.
whatever you get just scoop a warranty and drive the wheels off it.

AMGAfaltterbach, I particularly like the fact that the engine is a bottom-up AMG engineered masterpiece, that will be talked about and driven for years to come. IMO, loved it the first drive Frankfurt airport to Hilchenbach @ 280km on the autobahn without breaking a sweat, ha ha with a local driver of course. You could almost drive the car looking at the nav, it was that accurate, showed everything it time no hesitation. Truly a dream come true.

Thanks for the advice everyone above, but from what I gather the issues on the 2007 E63 aren't much different than the ones with the 2007 E550 that I currently have. From what I understand that engine (minus some gasket issues) is legendary and bulletproof, I definitely like the E63 more than the E55 after spending some time in both. Either way I think I will foot the bill for a good warranty then enjoy every mile that car is willing to give me, should have done that with my E550 which has been high in maintenance costs but that's something I expected. My big thing is finding someone to buy my current car and finding an E63 for a good price: while I know the mantra that if something seems too good to be true it probably is, that did NOT hold true with the steal I got on my E550 at the time because I did my due diligence and had it inspected by both LemonSquad and an independent Mercedes shop. Is the maintenance THAT much more than a non-AMG variant? I know brakes are insanely expensive but other than that?
The question is if that is a worthwhile upgrade from 382 hp AWD to 507hp RWD... I have a feeling the fun factor is worth it
