antifreeze in intercooler tank
for follks out east or anywhere cold if you have a split intercooler check your antifreeze i have been racing and when i filled my the last time not enough antifreeze was in the system and my intercooler tank was like a slushy i wondered why my act was 21 deg once the car heated up all was fine no leaks or bursts thank god it wasnt completely frozen but i drained it and put straight antifreeze in the tank.

Antifreeze in intercooler ?
Only place I put anti freeze is for the windshield/headlights cleaning system.
The coolant itself is very resilient rather it's better than the anti freeze if I might say so

The coolant in our cars is a mixture of water and antifreeze*. So 99lightning is correct.
*Obviously modern Antifreeze is not only the antifreeze glycol itself, but also Rust, Aluminum and other protectors, as well as waterpump lubricating agents.

Straight antifreeze will freeze before the proper mix ratio of antifreeze and water will. Maybe I am wrong but have heard this for many years, any comments.

Had the intercooler in my truck freeze solid last year. Pulled the plugs and cranked the motor over just in case. I didn't want to bend a rod on top of a cracked intercooler if it had cracked

mine is prob about 50/50 since i just drained the res not the whole system its good to go act's are where they normally are this time of year.

Intercolers DO need anti-freeze, but don't use too much.
Antifreeze has less heat capacity than water, so you get less coolling.
It is also more viscous, so if the concentration is high, the flow rate goes down
So use as much as you need but no more.

Damn, cant imagine freezing up a trunk tank
I keep a small amount of AF in the trunk tank to prevent slime from growing but run pure water during race season.
So, you must get flat spots on your tires, when they freeze with weight of car on them as well. I bet that is a rough ride, until hey thaw out?

Old nylon tires of yesteryear were notorious for flat spotting when cold after sitting for a short while. Did not see any flat spotting on the PSS after sitting last year for a few winter months.
