--Cash vs. Credit Card: Gas Stations Charging Different Prices--
may be off topic but do any of the state's in the east coast have this?? I just came here in Washington and some gas stations have cash or credit prices. Cash for unleaded was $2.99 and credit card was $3.25 while most others were $3.55 regular and $3.78 premium. I know in Fl I haven't seen this but the cheapest is $3.07 and premium I think $3.45

They have a few stations that do this in Houston. They do it because of the fees credit card companies charge and they will pass those savings on to the consumer if they use cash.

I see it at many places in Maryland. Hell, there's even a few places that will only take cash, no pay at the pump. And its modern, it's just their business model. I think that chain is called Freeststate. Never used them, but their prices are cheaper and the place always looks packed.

Yessir NY has the same thing. Some has stations charge $0.10 more and some up to $0.30 more with credit card. There is very very few I come across where cash and credit is the same price.

This is news? Been going on for years where I live.
My neighbor owns a BP station which he is desperately trying to get out of because he can't make any money any more. The credit card companies make as much on a gallon of gas as he does. He makes his money on the convenience store and gas sales make just enough to cover his overhead. Guy does 3 Million a year gross and keeps less than a 100 K. **** business to be in.

In my neck of the woods (Central coast of California) stations routinely charge .25-.30/gallon more for credit vs cash. My problem is this: CC companies typically charge the station 3-4% per transaction. At $4/gallon, 4% would be .16 cents a gallon. So, where do they get off charging double what the CC companies charge them? I won't go to station that has tiered pricing. Gas stations make money based on volume, so the CC fees should be averaged into the single price.

They do that here in Michigan, this was the only state that I have known to do that until now. Sadly, due to safety & convenience I opt to pay the higher price by paying with credit at the pump.
