Steering wheel question - W211 and C219

Hey Guys,

maybe I'll find some answers here.

Can someone explain me why some steering wheels for the W211 and C219 have a plate with plugs (I don't know how to call it) inside them and some don't?
What does it do?

Thanks in advance
Matt

All steering wheels have a metal plate, wire harness and connectors. the pics you are seeing is when they have been removed.

I mean the harness for the connectors.
What plugs go into it? From the shift paddles? Buttons on the airbag?

On the pic below you can see that there is no holding space for the connector.

That's because earlier models has the "connector" built in on the airbag circuit board (even though the airbag looks the same it's not on the back side) and it also uses an earlier clock spring and steering angle sensor.

Ok one last question to mertd93:

Do you know what year they made this change? Was it after the face-lifting of the W211?

On the US w211 they made the change in 05, the euro w211 must be 04. But the US w211 got that new wheel/airbag in 07 and again euro w211 must be 06.
But what exactly are you trying to do so I can understand better what you're looking for?

A friend of mine is trying to solve an issue with his car's steering and he didn't know which steering wheel and airbag to look for.

Now I have all the info I needed. Thanks again
