Radiator fan electrical connector

Hate to ask such a stupid question but I'm starting to think its melted together. What's the trick to disconnect it? I see there's two tabs on either side of the top of the plug that for me don't seem to release anything and another tab lower and in the middle but its part of the shroud and doesn't seem to hold anything either. I don't want to break anything, assuming its not already, since its integrated with the fan and shroud.

It should just unplug
You may have too hold the lower portion to unplug the connector

That's what i was afraid of. I'll look at it in better light again tomorrow. Looking more like the source for the fan not working issue I'm having.
Thanks

I had the same problem, the connections inside the plug corroded, took a bit of effort to release the plug. The plug cant be replaced on its own, a whole fan assembly is required....

After doing a little research and learning there was (aside from chasing Chrysler part numbers for a fan motor) no reasonable alternative to replacing the entire shroud, I went at it a little more aggressively and got it apart only to confirm my suspicions...I shouldn't have bought a Massachusetts car

New shroud and plug will be here Monday.

The offending connector blades, or lack thereof:

yikes

Wow ... that looks nasty! How did that happen - did water get in there to short it out?

Btw, does anyone have the wiring diagram for these 4-prong plug fans? - I'm trying to test mine (and the signal going to it), but don't know what to look for ... thx.

had the same problem with my car 4 years ago. Split system reservoir sat right on top of the connector which would wet the connector when you would fill the system periodically

Mine has this exact same issue ... does anyone have a bad fan that they would like to sell the electrical connector on. Don't think just the connector is available on EPC.

you can get rid of the connector and connect the wires directly.

Nah ... I am kind of **** .. want to be as close to stock as possible. I might consider a different connector to solder/crimp on both sides but will not connect directly.

Well since you already have to cut wires I would run an override switch to under the dash. If you monitor your fan speed through climate control it only runs when it's hot. Too hot IMO over 85f ambient I run mine all the time.

I did not cut any wires. I started to transfer a connector from my non-functioning CDI radiator fan but it is built into the fan controller. Also the E55 fan plug has two big built in capacitors in there ... it was more trouble than it was worth so I just bought another fan .. too bad cos the fan is in great condition besides that one pin.

It is a little more difficult to take out the Electric fan on an E55 than E320 CDI. There's the oil cooler bracket and all the stuff on the left side of the car gets in the way - coolant lines that obstruct the path but not too bad.

I know this is an older thread, but there seems to be some capacitors in the stock plug and maybe more. Not sure if doing away with them is good or not
