Just installed a set of NGK's (one step colder) in my CLS. The ones I removed were decent-poor in condition.
Car idles smoother and there's no indication that the car doesn't like the colder plugs.

We had the -36F feel last week.crazy storm.it usually stays around 10F. if that happens again i am wondering if it will affect the running with colder plugs.will the engine stay colder than regular running temperature?

Any thoughts on changing wires at the same time? Some people say yes, some people say it's not necessary unless they are bad...

Any advice here?

I didn't do wires, they tested out ok - but it's a quick/simple check

No necessary to change the wires.they dnt really go bad unless the coil on top craks for some reason.they are not even listed on a manual as things to change for mantenace reasons. spark plugs need to be changed every 100k miles by the book.but in alot of cases way earlier than that.they make a difference.

I've got a track day on friday and want to get the plugs done before then. I assume the gaping on the colder plugs is the same as the OEM plugs??

I think the originals are 0.39" but the ngk plugs are pregaped you dnt have to mess with that.

I wouldnt be too concerned with only one step colder. If it were two or three steps colder I'd probably second guess it as well, but one step colder is not that much of a difference.
Go for it.

FWIW The SLR uses ILFR6A or LFR6AIX-11 NGK. Note, these are 6 series heat range. NGK's have a very wide heat range.

Where in MI are you located? I've only seen one other 55 on the road. Also, you're driving it now? I couldn't get out of my sub in March last year, lol, mine's been parked since November.
