Replacing SRT-8 with E55
Replacing SRT-8 with E55
Hello all! I have been lurking on the forums for quite a while. I currently own a 2012 SRT8 Challenger. I am thinking about purchasing a 2004 E55 that is for sale in my area. It is a one owner car with all of the service records. It has 93,xxx miles and is decently equipped. I am thinking an about getting rid of my Challenger and picking up the E55 because the aftermarket is not that great for the Mopar products. I am an avid do-it-yourself guy and I love to wrench on things as a hobby. Fixing issues on the Merc is not that big of a concern as long as it is not internal engine work. I wish I could have both but I don't have the room. Would I be making a mistake getting rid of the Challenger for the E55?
I think you would be happy with the e55 and very pleased my brother has a SRT 8 challenger and he borrows my car a lot. He mostly uses challenger for weekends and he loves my car a lot more. You will love the comfort and power of e55 a lot more and daily driver is a big plus. I say go for it ! Just make sure you get a ppi before you buy the e55 good luck.
Bro , get the E if you don't mind listening to her and addressing the small things when she starts to get fussy. I've had a 5.0 back in the day a GS400 and a few other cars and my E has given me the most pleasure of any automobile I've ever driven. Too notch still even for an older vehicle.. Now, if I had to pay the stealer for what has had to be done on my car with similar mileage as the one you are considering I'd be pissed. But , if you can and want to twist a wrench find solutions to basically every problem you'll have with your car here, don't trip buy the biatch. ;
I've had to change idler pulleys, IC Pump w/ Bosch, Supercharger Bearing replaced w/ EC pulley and tune, one range colder on plugs and all fluids changed motor flushed etc.

Thanks for the replies. One of the things I am concerned about is the cost to rebuild one of these engines should some thing go wrong. I see that purchasing a rebuilt engine is upwards of 17,000 bucks!
Not cheap by any means, but a used engine would be more affordable if you wanted to go that route. It's a Benz these motors were only made for a few years so like the cars they are just that, kinda limited... If you don't beat the crap out of it, maintain it and go mod crazy you should be fine. Some get away with all the above too with no major problems. I think it's all in your set up.
What happens five years from now when used engines are near impossible to find? I guess I would have to shell out the dough and get it rebuilt. Man, I am stoked! Hopefully the seller and I can agree on a fair price.

Love my E.
It's a difficult car to replace and I fear that when the time comes where a replacement is need-based, I won't be satisfied with my choices.
Get the Benz, I promise you'll never look back. Coming from a long line of BMW M-cars, I thought I'd be craving that experience again after jumping into the AMG, but honestly after a year of ownership, I can't say I do.
Better start saving now

These engines are bullet proof nothing should go wrong as long as you maintain them. Buddy of mine blew his engine due too no oil. Had a oil leak hit oil pan he says on a long drive. He got a 70k engine installed for about 7,500
you can always rebuild them to save money.
I have 110,000 miles modded car is running strong
