Buying '09 E63 - What's Issues To Expect?
I am going to buy an 09 E63. I'd appreciate any feedback on the common issues with the E63 and any major mechanical problems I may encounter. Specifically I am looking to see what headaches I should expect. I will be getting an 09 with around 40k miles.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I also have a 2009 e63 that I purchased with 39K miles, at 41K miles I was losing coolant pressure. I brought it to the dealer and they found that the head bolt were at fault. The extended warranty that I purchased declined to cover the work due to the faulty part was classified as a "fastener".
The total cost of this fix is $3800 which Mercedes picked up 80% of the cost and I was responsible for $760. Which was not huge cost to me since the car was out of it's factory warranty.
Good luck with your purchase. You will enjoy the car!

frequent trips to the tire shop, gas station and a deeper relationship with law enforcement.
I bought mine with 45k and it now has 75k and haven't had any trouble with it and it gets rode hard daily.

Just do PPI (Pre purchase inspection) in a Mercedes dealer if possible.
In my experience, Ext. warranty is just waste of money. It's very tricky with warranty contract. They can just denied you for any reason. I rather have the money in my pocket to fix it when I need it. E63 Ext warranty won't be cheap.... $4k easy.

bought with 42k totaled it at 73K not once single problem with my car.
I did full fluid flush when I got it and that was all.
I drop headers tuned and filters.
New pads and rotors all around at 55k.
and YES tires in the rear were replaced very often...
I have front rotors if you need 500 miles on them...
Make sure the rotors are in good shape (front) very expensive...
Buy it Drive it Enjoy it....As long its the car you want with the options you want and color...No need to settle for something you going to say..I should have ...

YOUR GOING TO LOVE IT. do your proper pre purchase check as usual. I dont agree. I would still get a extended warranty because just a few trips and it pays for it self...yes they may deny you...i always build a good relationship with a SA and make sure there taken care of (under the table) if needed...couple hundred is alot less then couple of thousand...what the SA says to warranty goes a long way...

I did buy the extended warranty, I think it was about $2,800. They have replaced 1 door handle, the stereo head unit and the motor mounts so far so I think I am break even at this point. Cheap insurance.

Thank you for all the replies. I'm really hoping to get a solid 5 years out of this car as my daily driver. I'm replacing my reliable 2001 Lexus GS300 tank that I've put no more than 3 grand in upkeep over the 8 years I've owned it.
This is the E63 I want, a 2009 (Flint Gray) with a pretty good list of options. It is a CarMax car and they offer a good price for the Extended Warranty compared to a few places I have received quotes from. Some of my Credit unions wont even provide a warranty for AMG vehicles.
Looking forward to the car!
The CarMax warranty does not exclude bolts and fasteners.

If anyone cares I did purchase the car in question. The price was competitive and the car was in VERY good condition. Of course when I added the carmax 125k 7 year warranty, sales tax, etc...the ol' pocket book was a wee bit lighter. I have found that this car has almost every option except for the fancy LSD/No Speed Limiter package and the dynamic seats. It does have a few things not listed on the data sheet like the powered trunk open/close.
I did have the local MB dealer do a CPO-esque pre-purchase inspection on the car today and basically it's in almost perfect condition. The car had been meticulously maintained and serviced at MB over its life. Has new tires, new-ish brakes, and fresh fluids.
Driving it daily now, fingers crossed I can get about 6 good years out of it without any major headaches.
It's wonderful to drive and god-awful fast. Love it! (The wife....not so much)

Make sure you get an extended warranty that covers "fastener and clips", most do not. The reasoning is that the head bolts will crack. There is a bulletin on file with Mercedes Benz for this issue.

I always chuckle when I see AMG For Sale threads with that language.
